Removal & Installation



2001-03 TL Models
With Navigation System
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, and the navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons and navigation system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear console. Refer to the accompanying illustration for details.

  5. Remove the dashboard lower cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the driver's front console cover (A) and passenger's front console cover (B), as follows:
    1. Remove the screw (C, D).
    2.  
    3. Detach the rear clips (E) by pulling both covers outward
    4.  
    5. Pull both trim back to detach the front clips (F)

  9. Remove the shift indicator trim ring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the console panel tray (A), as follows:
    1. Carefully insert a flat-tip screwdriver next to the clip (B), and detach the clips by prying on the driver's seat heater switch (C) and passenger's seat heater switch (D). Take care not to scratch the console panel tray.
    2.  
    3. Pull out the switches, then disconnect the seat heater switch connector (E).
    4.  
    5. Gently pull out the console panel tray to release the hooks (F) and tabs (G).

  13. Remove the console panel (A), as follows:
    1. Remove the screws (B, C).
    2.  
    3. Release the tabs (D).
    4.  
    5. Detach the accessory socket connector (E).

  15. Remove the six mounting screws, disconnect the audio unit connectors (A), climate control unit connectors (B) and the antenna lead (C), then remove the audio unit (D).

  17. Remove the screws and climate control unit (A) from the audio unit (B).

  19. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. After installation, operate the climate control unit controls to see whether it works properly.

    3. Enter the anti-theft code for radio, and the navigation system, then enter the radio station presents.

Without Navigation System

NOTE
When using a prytool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.

  1. Tilt the steering column down.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column upper cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument panel (A) and climate control assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the screws
    2.  
    3. Gently pull out along the bottom to release the lower clips (B), then along the top to release the remaining clips (B and C)
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the TCS/cruise control main switch connector (D) (3.2 TL) or VSA/cruise control main switch connector (D) (3.2 TL-S), front fog light switch connector ('02-03 models) (E), moon roof switch connector (F), select/reset switch connector (G) and hazard warning switch connector (H). Disconnect the clock connector and climate control unit connectors.

  7. Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control unit (A) from the instrument panel (B).

To install:

  1. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the climate control unit to see whether it works properly.
  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel in the reverse order of removal, and make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
  4.  

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Remove the center air vent and center console trim.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolts and the climate control unit together with audio unit, then disconnect the connectors.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolts, the screws and the brackets, then remove the screws and the climate control unit from the audio unit.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  8.  

2004-06 TL Models

NOTE
Wear gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts. Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system, then write down the channels for the XM radio's presets.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center console rear section and center console panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws and bolts, then pull out the audio-HVAC display module assembly (A).
  8.  
  9. Detach the connectors (B) and antenna lead (C), then remove the audio-HVAC display module assembly.

  11. Remove the self-tapping screws and the audio unit and bracket from the display panel control unit.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector (A) and 16P connector (B) from the display panel control unit (C). Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control switch assembly (D).

To install:

  1. Install the control switch assembly in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the control switch assembly controls to see if they work properly.
  2.  
  3. Install the audio-HVAC display module assembly in the reverse order of removal, and note the following:
    1. Make sure all connectors and antenna lead are secure.
    2.  
    3. Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the XM radio channel presets, and set the clock.
    4.  
    5. If necessary, enter the navigation system anti-theft code.
    6.

2005-06 RL Models

NOTE
Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts. Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system, then write down the radio station presets and XM radio channel presets.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center console trim, as follows:
    1. Console panel
    2.  
    3. Console front cover, both sides
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolts securing the front of the center console (A), then pull out both sides as needed.
    6.  
    7. Gently pull out along the bottom to release the clips and hooks (A), then remove the center console trim (B).
    8.

  5. Remove the self tapping screws, then pull out the audio unit (A).
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the connectors (B), then remove the audio unit.

  9. Remove the screws and the audio unit from the audio panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control unit.
  12.  
  13. Discharge the static electricity (which accumulated on you when you removed the climate control unit) by touching the door striker or other body parts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the self-tapping screws, then carefully separate the climate control unit (A) from the climate control panel (B). Disconnect the connector (C) from the climate control unit. Do not kink or pull on the wires between the control panel and the control unit. Do not touch the electronic components on the printed circuit board in the control unit and control panel.

  17. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the various functions to see whether works properly.

To install:

  1. Install the control unit and audio unit in the reverse order of removal, and note the following:
    1. Make sure all the connectors and the antenna lead are secure.
    2.  
    3. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets and XM radio channel presets, and set the clock.
    4.  
    5. If necessary, enter the navigation system code.
    6.

CL Models
With Navigation System
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear console.
  4.  
  5. Remove the console panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the six mounting screws, disconnect the audio unit connectors (A), climate control unit connectors (with Navigation) (B) and the antenna lead (C), then remove the audio unit (D).

  9. Remove the climate control unit (with Navigation) or CD console box (without Navigation).
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws and climate control unit from the audio unit.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal, and note the following:
    1. After installation, operate the climate control unit to see whether it works properly.
    2.  
    3. Make sure the audio unit and climate control panel connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is properly connected.
    4.  
    5. Enter the anti-theft code for radio and the navigation system, then enter the radio station presents.
    6.  

  2.  

Without Navigation System
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    WARNING
    When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts to prevent damage. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.

  5. Remove the instrument panel together with the climate control unit, as follows:
    1. Tilt the steering column down, and remove the steering column upper cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the instrument panel as shown in the accompanying figure.

  7. Remove the self-tapping screws and the climate control unit (A) from the instrument panel (B).
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the climate control unit to see whether it works properly.
  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel in the reverse order of removal, and note the following:
    1. Replace any damaged clips.
    2.  
    3. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
    4.  
    5. Push the clips of the panel into place securely.
    6.  
    7. Enter the anti-theft code for radio and the navigation system, then enter the radio station presents.
    8.

Integra Models
  1. Disconnect the air mix control cable from the heater unit.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear window defogger switch and the hazard warning switch.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two self-tapping screws, then pull out the heater control panel and the center air vent.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the heater control panel and the center air vent.
    NOTE
    The locking tabs of the hazard warning switch and heater control panel connectors are on the bottom.

  8.  
  9. Remove the four self-tapping screws and the center air vent.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  12.  

NSX Models
  1. Remove the clock.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two screws behind the clock, then remove the center air vent.
  4.  
  5. Take out the ashtray and remove the two screws from under the ashtray.
  6.  
  7. Remove the four screws, then remove the center armrest.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three screws and center console panel, then disconnect the 3P connector and 4P connector from the floor wire harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the four screws, then disconnect the 14P and 30P connectors from the automatic climate control unit and remove it.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  14.  

RSX Models
  1. Remove the climate control unit (A) from the dashboard, then disconnect the electrical connector (B). Do not to damage the control unit or the dashboard.
  2.  

To install:

  1. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the control unit controls to see if they work properly.

TSX Models

Before performing this procedure, note the following:

  1. Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  2.  
  3. Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.
  4.  
  5. Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.
  6.  
  7. Do not work in a dusty or dirty place.
  8.  
  9. Discharge static electricity from your body before and during the work.
  10.  
  11. Do not touch the circuit board(s) with your bare hands.
  12.  
  13. Do not work with dirty hands.
  14.  
  15. Be careful not to fold the flat plate cable.
  16.  
  17. Do not touch the terminal connector of the flat plate cable with your bare hands. (If you have touched it, wipe it off thoroughly.)
  18.  

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio system, then write down the audio presets.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 3 minutes before proceeding.
    NOTE
    Upper panel removal requires the use of Upper Panel/Vent Removal Tool 07AAC-DSAA100, or equivalent. Be careful not to scratch the dashboard and related components.

  4.  
  5. Remove the upper panel, as follows:
    1. Push the hazard warning switch button (A). Carefully insert a flat-tip screwdriver into the slot (B) below the button, and push down on the center clip.

    2.  
    3. With the special tool and a flat-tip screwdriver: Set both ends of the special tool in the center vent openings (A) as shown. While pressing the center clip (B) down, pull the upper panel (C) back with the tool to detach the clips (D).

    5. With two flat-tip screwdrivers : Carefully insert a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with tape into the slot (A) on one side of the upper panel (B). While pressing down on the center clip (C), carefully pull out on the side of the panel to detach the clips (D). Repeat this operation on the other side of the panel.

    7. Pull the upper panel (A) in the direction shown to release the remaining clips, disconnect the hazard warning switch connector (B), and if equipped, sunlight sensor connector (C) and navigation subdisplay connector (D). Detach the harness clips (E), then remove the upper panel.

  7. Remove the center pocket, as follows:
    1. Remove the center holder.
    2.  
    3. Remove the center pocket screws (B).
    4.  
    5. Open the lid, then pull the pocket back by hand to detach the clips (C).
    6.  
    7. Close the lid, then remove the center pocket (A).

  9. Remove the screws and bolts, disconnect the audio-HVAC display module connectors (A) and the antenna lead (B), then remove the audio-HVAC display module (C).

To install:

  1. Install the audio-HVAC display module and note these items:
    1. Make sure the disconnected connectors are plugged in properly and the AM/FM antenna sublead jack is connected properly.
    2.  
    3. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio and the navigation system, then enter the audio presets.
    4.

  3. Install the pocket in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Make sure the holders (D) are installed onto the pins (E) properly.
    2.  
    3. Push the clipped portions into place securely.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the center pocket lid opens smoothly.
    6.  

  4.  
  5. Install the upper panel in the reverse order of removal, and make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
