    Removal & Installation

    2001-03 TL Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle, then drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    2.  
    3. Cover the crankshaft pulley with several shop towels to protect if from spilled power steering fluid.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (A) and pump outlet hose (B) from the pump (C), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.
    6.  
    7. Remove the belt (D) by loosening the pump adjusting nut (E), then remove pump mounting bolts (F), nut (G) and pump. Do not turn the steering wheel with pump removed.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
    2.  
    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts and nut.
    4.  
    5. Install the pump belt on the pulley. Make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    6.  
    7. Adjust the pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
    8.  
    9. Tighten the pump retainers to the specifications shown in the accompanying figure.
    10.  
    11. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system.

    2001-04 RL Models




    NOTE
    Before disconnecting the hoses from the pump, place a suitable container under the vehicle.

    1. Remove the air cleaner (ACL) and intake air duct.
    2.  
    3. Remove the belt by loosening the pump mounting bolt, nut and adjusting bolt.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump, and plug the hoses.
      WARNING
      Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at one.

    6.  
    7. Remove the pump mounting bolt, nut and adjusting bolt, then remove the pump.
      WARNING
      Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed. Wrap the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    8.  

    To install:

    1. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
    2.  
    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with mounting bolt, nut and adjusting bolt.
    4.  
    5. Install the pump belt Make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the power steering belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    6.  
    7. Adjust the pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
    8.  
    9. Install the air cleaner (ACL) and intake air duct.
    10.  
    11. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system, as outlined in this section.
    12.  

    2004-06 TL Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the right side engine component cover (A).

    5. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    6.  
    7. Remove the side engine mount bracket (A).

    9. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley. Refer to the Engine Mechanical Section for more information.
    10.  
    11. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (B) and pump outlet hose (C) from the pump (D), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
    12.  
    13. Remove the pump mounting bolts (E).

    To install:

    1. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.
    2.  
    3. Connect the pump inlet hose and pump outlet hose onto the new pump.
    4.  
    5. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque.
    8.  
    9. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys (B).
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    10.  
    11. Install the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
    12.  
    13. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system.
    14.  
    15. Install the right side engine component cover.
    16.  

    2005-06 RL Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the right front fender trim (A).

    5. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    6.  
    7. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.
    8.  
    9. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (B) and pump outlet hose (C) from the pump (D), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

    11. Remove the pump mounting bolts (E).
    12.  
    13. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump inlet hose and pump outlet hose onto the new pump.

    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.

    5. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque shown in the accompanying illustration.
    6.  
    7. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys (B).
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    8.  
    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system.
    10.  
    11. Install the right side engine component cover.

    CL Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely.

    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts and nut.

    5. Install the pump belt on the pulley. Make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    7. Adjust the pump belt adjustment, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
    8.  
    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system.

    Integra Models



    1. Place a suitable drain pan under the vehicle, then disconnect the power steering hoses from the pump to drain the fluid.
    2.  
    3. Remove the belt by loosening the pump adjusting bolts and mounting bolts.
    4.  
    5. Cover the alternator with some rags to protect it from any spilled power steering fluid.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect and plug the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump.

    9. Unfasten the pump mounting bolt(s), then remove the pump from the vehicle.
      WARNING
      Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

    10.  
    11. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent any foreign material from entering the pump.
    12.  
    13. If you are replacing the pump and need to transfer the pulley, hold the steering pump in a suitable soft-jawed vise, hold the pulley with a suitable universal pulley holding tool, then remove the pulley nut and pulley/
    14.  
    15. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Bleed the power steering system.
    16.  

    RSX Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle, then drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    2.  
    3. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
    4.  
    5. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (C) and the pump outlet hose (D) from the pump (E), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
    6.  
    7. Remove the pump mounting bolts (B).

    To install:

    1. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.
    2.  
    3. Install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts.
    4.  
    5. Connect the pump inlet hose and the pump outlet hose with new O-ring.
    6.  
    7. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the drive belt is properly positioned on the pulleys (B).
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor and drive belt, or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    8.  
    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line with recommended power steering fluid, then bleed the system.
    10.  

    TSX Models



    1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    4.  
    5. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley.
    6.  
    7. Remove the pump mounting bolts (B).
    8.  
    9. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect them from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (C) and pump outlet hose (D) from the pump (E), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.
    10.  
    11. Cover the opening of the pump with a piece of tape to prevent foreign material from entering the pump.

    To install:

    1. Connect the pump inlet hose and the pump outlet hose onto the new pump with the new O-ring (F).
    2.  
    3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts, then tighten the pump fittings securely.
    4.  
    5. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.
      WARNING
      Do not get power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

    7. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to the specified torque, as shown in the accompanying illustration.

    9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line and bleed the system, as outlined in this section.
