Removal & Installation



2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Compress the damper spring with a strut spring, then remove the self-locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.
  4.  
  5. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor, then disassemble the damper.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install all parts except the self-locking nut and washer onto the.
  2.  
  3. Align the bottom of the spring (A) and the stepped part of the lower spring seat (B), and align the damper mounting base (C).
  4.  
  5. Install the damper assembly on a strut spring compressor.
  6.  
  7. Compress the damper spring with the spring compressor.

  9. Install the washer and a new self-locking nut. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wench and tighten the 10 mm self-locking nut to the 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Remove the damper assembly from the strut spring compressor.
  12.  

CL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Compress the damper spring with a strut spring, then remove the self-locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.

  9. Install the washer and a new self-locking nut. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wench and tighten the 10 mm self-locking nut to the 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

  11. Remove the damper assembly from the strut spring compressor.
  12.  

Integra & NSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle and remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the strut (damper).
  6.  
  7. Place the strut assembly in a coil spring compressor.
  8.  
  9. Compress the coil spring and remove the locking nut from the top of the strut.
  10.  
  11. Release the pressure from the spring compressor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the coil spring and related pieces from the strut.
  14.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new self-locking nuts and bolts when assembling the strut.

  1. Install the strut, coil spring and related components on the spring compressor.
  2.  
  3. Compress the spring.
  4.  
  5. Install the mounting washer, and loosely install a new self-locking nut.
  6.  
  7. Hold the strut piston rod with a hex wrench and tighten the self-locking nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the strut in the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Check and adjust the vehicle's front wheel alignment.

RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the self-locking nut and the washer while holding the joint pin with hex wrench and disconnect the stabilizer link from lower arm.
  6.  
  7. Place a floor jack at the connecting point of lower arm and the stabilizer link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cotter pin from the lower arm ball joint, and loosen the nut.
    NOTE
    During installation, insert the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the rear to the front of vehicle, and bend its end as shown.

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint remover.
  12.  
  13. Lower the floor jack gradually.
  14.  
  15. Remove the spring, spring mounting cushion and lower spring seat.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the spring mounting cushion and spring.
  2.  
  3. Align the bottom of the spring, the stepped part of the lower spring seat and lower arm.
  4.  
  5. Place the floor jack at the connecting point of lower arm and the stabilizer link.
  6.  
  7. Raise the jack slowly until you can align the bolt hole of lower arm and the knuckle ball joint pin, then loosely install the castle nut.
  8.  
  9. Install the stabilizer link on the lower arm with the washer and the new self-locking nut, and lightly tighten them.
  10.  
  11. Raise the rear suspension with a floor jack to load it with the vehicle's weight.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the castle nut and self-locking nut to the 54-61 ft. lbs. (74-83 Nm).
    NOTE
    Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tightens if only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole. Do not align the castle nut by loosening it.

  15. Insert a new cotter pin into the ball joint pin from the rear to the front of the vehicle, and bend its end.
  16.  
  17. Install the rear wheel.
  18.  
  19. Check the rear wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
  20.  

TSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Compress the damper spring with a strut spring, then remove the self-locking nut while holding the damper shaft with a hex wrench. Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.
  4.  
  5. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor, then disassemble the damper.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install all parts except the self-locking nut and washer onto the.

  3. Align the bottom of the spring (A) and the stepped part of the lower spring seat (B), and align the damper mounting base (C).

  5. Install the damper assembly on a strut spring compressor.
  6.  
  7. Compress the damper spring with the spring compressor.
