Bushing Replacement




NOTE
The bushings are an integral part of the control arm and are not replaceable. If they are damaged the control arm should be replaced.

Removal & Installation



2001-03 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Control arm from the knuckle
     
    Control arm from the subframe
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control arm to the vehicle and torque the subframe nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the knuckle nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  4.  

2001-04 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Stabilizer link from the control arm
     
    Control arm from the knuckle
     
    Control arm from the bracket
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:



Control arm to the vehicle
 
Control arm bracket bolt and torque it to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
 
Control arm to the knuckle and torque the nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
 
Stabilizer link and torque the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm)
 
Rear wheels
 

  1. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  2.  

2004-06 TL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower arm mounting nut and mounting bolt from the knuckle side.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange bolt and the lower arm.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, keep in mind the following:
    1. Align the cam positions of the adjusting bolt and adjusting cam with the marked positions when tightening.
    2.  
    3. Use a new lower arm mounting nut on reassembly.
    4.  
    5. Tighten all mounting hardware to the torque specified in the accompanying illustration.
    6.  
    7. First install all the components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the final torque specs.
    8.  
    9. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust if necessary.

CL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Control arm from the knuckle
     
    Control arm from the subframe
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control arm to the vehicle and torque the subframe nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the knuckle nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  4.  

Integra And RSX Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Hub/bearing assembly
     
    Splash guard
     
    Lower strut mounting bolt
     
    Upper arm from the control arm
     
    Lower arm from the control arm
     
    Compensator arm
     
    Control arm mounting bolts
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm and torque the bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Compensator arm and torque the bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Lower arm and torque the bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Upper arm and torque the bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Lower strut mounting bolt and torque it to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Hub/bearing assembly and torque the nut to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm)
     

  2.  

Lower Arm A
2005-06 RL Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower arm A mounting nut, washers and mounting bolt from the knuckle side.
  6.  
  7. Remove the self-locking nut, washers and the flange bolt, then remove the lower arm A.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower arm in the reverse order of removal, please note the following:
    1. Use a new lower arm A mounting nut and self-locking nut on reassembly.
    2.  
    3. First, install the components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque.
    4.  
    5. Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque.
    6.  
    7. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the self-locking nut and the washer while holding the joint pin with a hex wrench and disconnect the stabilizer link from lower arm B.
  6.  
  7. Place a floor jack at the connecting point of lower arm B and the stabilizer link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cotter pin from the lower arm B ball joint, and loosen the nut.
    NOTE
    During installation, insert the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the rear to the front of vehicle, and bend its end.

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle using a separator tool.
  12.  
  13. Lower the floor jack gradually.
  14.  
  15. Remove the spring, spring mounting cushion and lower spring seat.
  16.  
  17. Remove the self-locking nut and flange bolt, then remove lower arm B.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lower arm B bolts to the specifications in the illustration and tighten the stabilizer link to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the ball joint nut to 54-61 ft. lbs. (74-83 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Lower arm mounting nut and mounting bolt from the knuckle side
     
    Flange bolt
     
    Lower arm
     

  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the flange bolt to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm) and the mounting nut to 79.6 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).

Lower Arm B
TSX
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Control arm mounting nut and washer from the knuckle side
     

  6.  
  7. Matchmark the cam positions of the adjusting bolt and adjusting cam, then remove the self-locking nut and adjusting cam and adjusting bolt. Discard the self-locking nut and control arm mounting nut.

    Lower control arm
     

  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the self-locking nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the mounting nut to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Knuckle from the control arm
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control arm to the vehicle and torque the mounting bolts to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the knuckle to the control arm and torque the nut to 40-47 ft. lbs. (54-64 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  8.  

3.2cl And 3.2tl
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following: Rear wheelsControl arm from the knuckleControl arm from the subframeControl arm from the vehicle

    Rear wheels
     
    Control arm from the knuckle
     
    Control arm from the subframe
     
    Control arm from the vehicle
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the control arm to the vehicle and torque the subframe nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) and the knuckle nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  4.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.

To install:



Control arm to the vehicle
 
Control arm bracket bolt and torque it to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
 
Control arm to the knuckle and torque the nuts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
 
Stabilizer link and torque the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm)

  1. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.

To install:

  1. Install the control arm to the vehicle and torque the mounting bolts to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the knuckle to the control arm and torque the nut to 40-47 ft. lbs. (54-64 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment.
  8.
