  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Raise and safely support the vehicle, drain the oil and remove the oil pan.

  3. Make sure the crankshaft is at TDC on No. 1 cylinder and remove the timing belt cover and the timing belt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan and the pick-up screen.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump from the front of the engine. Any time the oil pump is removed, the front oil seal should be replaced.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new O-rings and apply liquid gasket to the pump mounting face. Torque the 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm) and the 8mm bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).

CHECKING



  1. Check the rotor radial clearance:
    1. New: 0.002-0.006 in. (0.04-0.16mm)
    2.  
    3. Limit: 0.008 in. (0.20mm)

  3. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance:
    1. New: 0.001-0.003 in. (0.02-0.07mm)
    2.  
    3. Limit: 0.006 in. (0.15mm)

  5. Check the housing-to-rotor radial clearance:
    1. New: 0.004-0.007 in. (0.10-0.18mm)
    2.  
    3. Limit: 0.008 in. (0.20mm)
