Fig. Fig. 2: Replacing the power antenna mast

  1. Remove the antenna assembly special spanner nut and spacer from the top of the fender.
  2.
  3. Carefully withdraw the antenna mast, while extending it by turning the radio ON .
  4.

To install:
  1. Carefully direct the teeth of the mast drive cable toward the rear of the vehicle and insert the cable into the housing.
  2.
  3. Check for engagement of the cable teeth to the drive gear by moving the cable up and down.
  4.
  5. Turn the radio OFF and let the motor pull the drive cable inside the housing.
  6.
  7. Insert the mast into the antenna housing and install the bushing, spacer, and special retaining fender nut.
  8.
  9. Check the antenna for proper operation.

Manual Antenna
  1. Remove or loosen the radio in the dash and disconnect the antenna cable. It may be possible to disconnect the antenna without removing the radio but will require contortions under the dash.
  2.
  3. Remove the two antenna mounting screws on the roof.
  4.
  5. Tie a long piece of string or mechanic's wire to the end of the antenna cable.
  6.
  7. Slowly extract the antenna mast and cable from the pillar. An assistant may be useful in directing the wire through the other harnesses under the dashboard.
  8.
  9. Remove the antenna cable completely; when the connector is clear of the roof, untie the string or wire leaving it in the pillar.
  10.

To install:
  1. Attach the pull string or wire to the connector on the antenna cable. Feed the cable down the roof pillar. Have an assistant pull gently on the string to guide it along.
  2.
  3. As the cable is pulled, fit the mast into the pillar and, when fully installed, install the retaining screws. The screws must be clean and tight for proper antenna function.
  4.
  5. Under the dash, route the antenna cable to the radio. Make certain the cable is routed out of the way of feet, pedals, steering column motion or other hazards.
  6.
  7. Connect the antenna to the radio and install the radio.
