TESTING

  1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  2.
  3. Remove the vapor line from the fuel tank and connect a T-fitting between the vacuum gauge and the vacuum pump.
  4.
  5. Slowly apply vacuum while watching the gauge. Vacuum should stabilize momentarily to 0.2-0.6 in. Hg.
  6.
  7. If the vacuum stabilizes and/or the valve opens below 0.2 in. Hg or above 0.6 in. Hg, install a new valve and retest.
  8.
  9. Move the vacuum pump hose from the vacuum to the pressure fitting and move the vacuum gauge hose from the vacuum to the pressure side.
  10.
  11. Gradually pressurize the vapor line while watching the gauge. The pressure should stabilize to 0.4-1.4 in. Hg vacuum.
  12.
  13. If the pressure momentarily stabilizes (valve opens) to 0.4-1.4 in. Hg vacuum, the valve is OK.
  14.
  15. If the pressure stabilizes below 0.4 in. Hg or above 1.4 in. Hg vacuum, install a new valve and retest.
  16.
