1986-89 Integra

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator into a suitable drain pan.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the heater hoses at the firewall.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater valve cable from the heater valve.
  8.  
  9. Remove the heater assembly lower mounting nut. Remove the console.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the air mix cable from the heater assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the dashboard as follows:
    1. Remove the steering wheel.
    2.  
    3. Remove the console.
    4.  
    5. Remove the fuse lid, then remove the dashboard lower panel.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the wire harness from the fuse area. If necessary, remove the 2 nuts and lower the fuse box.
    8.  
    9. Remove the sunroof switch. Disconnect the ground cable at the right of the steering column. Lower the steering column.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the air mix cable. Disconnect the antenna cable.
    12.  
    13. Remove the 2 mounting nuts for the hood release handle. Remove the center upper lid from the top of the dashboard.
    14.  
    15. Remove the defrost garnishes from both ends of the dashboard.
    16.  
    17. Remove the 7 bolts and screws and lift the dashboard out far enough to disconnect the speedometer cable.
    18.  
    19. Remove the dashboard.
    20.

  15. Disconnect the wire harness connector. Remove the heater assembly mounting bolts and pull the heater assembly away from the body and out of the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the self tapping retaining screws from the heater assembly case and the retaining plate.
  18.  
  19. Remove the heater core from the heater assembly case.
  20.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse order of the removal procedure, except for the following.
    1. Apply a suitable sealant to the grommets.
    2.  
    3. Do not interchange the heater hoses.
    4.  
    5. Before tightening the dashboard retaining bolts, be sure that the dashboard is not interfering with the heater control lever or cables. Also check that no harness wires are pinched before tightening the dashboard bolts.
    6.  
    7. Loosen the bleed bolt on the engine and refill the radiator and reservoir tank with the proper coolant mixture.
    8.  
    9. Tighten the bleed bolt when all the trapped air has escaped from the system and the coolant begins to flow from it.
    10.  
    11. Connect all cables and adjust as necessary.

  1. Drain the coolant when the engine is cool to the touch.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the heater cable from the heater control valve and disconnect the hoses from the inlet. Coolant will run out of the openings so be ready to catch the spill.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower heater mount nut on the engine compartment firewall.
  6.  
  7. Remove the heater control panel, dashboard and the heater duct.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the heater air mix control cable from the unit and remove the 2 mounting bolts. Remove the heater unit.
  10.  
  11. Remove the heater core cover and the pipe mounting clamp. The heater core can be pulled out of the housing.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the heater core, mounting clamp and the core cover. Use sealant on the grommets.
  2.  
  3. Install the heater unit and torque the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm). Connect the air mix cable.
  4.  
  5. Install the heater duct, dashboard and heater control panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the mounting nut at the firewall and torque to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the heater valve and the heater hoses. Connect the heater valve cable.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the cooling system bleeder bolt on the engine and fill the cooling system. When coolant runs out of the bolt, close the bleeder. Complete filling the cooling system.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator into a suitable drain pan.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the heater hoses at the heater assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the dashboard as follows:
    1. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the dashboard lower panel. Remove the knee bolster, if so equipped.
    2.  
    3. Remove the left air duct, hood release and the center console (front console on the Coupe).
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the wire harness from the connector holder. Remove the dashboard harness ground bolt from the steering column.
    6.  
    7. Remove the screws and radio panel assembly, then disconnect the wire, connectors, antenna cable and the wire tie.
    8.  
    9. Remove the radio assembly. Disconnect the heater control cable.
    10.  
    11. Remove the center dash pocket. Lower the steering column.
    12.  
    13. Remove the ignition key from the lock cylinder. Remove the dashboard mounting nuts.
    14.  
    15. Pull the dashboard out far enough to disconnect the speedometer cable.
    16.  
    17. Remove the dashboard.
    18.

  9. Disconnect the wire harness and vacuum hoses.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the wire harness connector. Remove the heater assembly mounting bolts and pull the heater assembly away from the body and out of the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the self tapping retaining screws from the heater assembly case and the retaining plate. Remove the function control motor if necessary. Remove the vacuum control valve and vacuum joint if necessary.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heater core from the heater assembly case.

  1. Remove the dashboard and blower unit. Drain the coolant from the system and discharge the air conditioning system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater at the firewall. Catch the coolant that will run out.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the heater control valve cable at the valve.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts holding the air conditioner lines to the evaporator at the firewall. Remove the mounting nuts and the evaporator seal plate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the heater ducts, disconnect the wiring and remove the mounting nuts. Disconnect the air mix control motor connector and max cool motor connection on automatic systems. Remove the heater/evaporator assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cover over the heater core and remove the clamps. Pull the heater core out of the housing. Remove the top half of the housing to remove the evaporator core and expansion valve.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the evaporator core, expansion valve and heater core. Install the mounting clamps.
  2.  
  3. Install the heater/evaporator assembly. Install the mounting nuts and connect the harness. Install the ducts.
  4.  
  5. Install the evaporator seal plate, mounting nuts and the air conditioner lines.
  6.  
  7. Install the heater hoses and connect the heater cable to the heater valve. Install the blower and dashboard. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Recharge the air conditioning system.

  1. Remove the dashboard. Drain the coolant from the system and recover the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater at the firewall. Catch the coolant that will run out.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolts holding the air conditioner lines to the evaporator at the firewall. Remove the mounting nuts at the firewall.
  6.  
  7. Remove the duct and connector from the assembly. Remove the mounting nuts and the heater/evaporator assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the duct, pipe covers and pipe clamp. Disconnect the clip from the mode control motor rod. Remove the mounting screws and the mode control motor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the evaporator sensor, mode door arms and the left cover. Remove the heater core cover and pull out the heater core.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the heater core and cover. Install the left cover, mode door arms and the evaporator sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the mode control motor and the motor rod clip. Install the pipe covers, pipe clamp and the air duct.
  4.  
  5. Use sealant at the air conditioning grommets and install the heater/evaporator assembly. Torque the mounting bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the firewall located mounting nut and torque to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the air conditioner lines and torque the mounting nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the heater hoses and control valve. Install the dashboard. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Recharge the air conditioning system.
