Fig. Fig. 3: Adjusting the ignition timing-Integra

  1. Connect a timing light to engine; while engine idles, point light toward pointer on timing belt cover. Observe and note the timing mark position on the drive pulley.
  2.
  3. The ignition timing should be 16plus or minus2 degrees BTDC, indicated by the red mark, at 750plus or minus50 rpm in N .
  4.
  5. If timing adjustment is necessary, loosen the distributor hold-down bolts and turn the distributor as needed.
  6.
  7. When the desired setting is achieved, torque the hold-down bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  8.
  9. Remove the jumper wire from the timing terminal.

Fig. Fig. 5: Ignition timing adjusting can be achieved by turning the timing adjuster-1986-90 Legend and Vigor

  1. Start engine and allow it to warm up until the cooling fan comes on.
  2.
  3. Connect a timing light to engine; while engine idles, point light toward pointer on timing belt cover.
  4.
  5. Inspect ignition timing at idle. Timing should be 15plus or minus2 degrees BTDC, using the RED timing mark, at 680plus or minus50 rpm in N .
  6.
  7. If timing adjustment is necessary, complete following:
    1. Remove control box upper cover and ignition timing adjuster from control box.
    2.
    3. Drill 2 rivets off with a 1 / 8 in. drill bit, then separate stay cover from adjuster.
    4.

  8.

CAUTION
To avoid the possibility of personal injury, always wear eye protection when drilling. Do not damage adjuster when removing rivets.

    1. Adjust timing as necessary by turning adjusting screw on adjuster; turn adjusting screw counterclockwise to retard timing, or clockwise to advance timing.
    2.
    3. After adjustment, reinstall stay cover to ignition timing adjuster with new rivets, then reinstall adjuster to control box. Reinstall control box cover.
    4.

1991-93 Legend

See Figures 6 and 7

  1. Start engine and allow it to warm up until the cooling fan comes on.
  2.
  3. Pull out the ignition timing adjusting connector, located under the right side of the dash. Connect the WHT and BLK terminals with a jumper wire.
  4.
  5. Connect a timing light to the service loop; while engine idles, point light toward pointer on timing belt cover.

  1. Check the idle speed and adjust as required.
  2.
  3. Inspect ignition timing at idle. Timing should be 15 plus or minus 2 degrees BTDC, using the RED timing mark, at 600plus or minus50 rpm in N with automatic transmission or 650 plus or minus 50 rpm in N with manual transmission.
  4.
  5. If timing adjustment is necessary, complete the following:
    1. Remove the control box cover. Be careful not to damage the vacuum hose when remove the cover.
    2.
    3. Remove ignition timing adjuster from control box.
    4.
    5. Drill 2 rivets off with a 1 / 8 in. drill bit, then separate stay cover from adjuster.
    6.

  6.

    2.
    3. Remove the jumper wire from the timing adjusting connector.
    4.
    5. After adjustment, reinstall stay cover to ignition timing adjuster with new rivets, then reinstall adjuster to control box. Reinstall control box cover.

CAUTION
All SRS electrical wiring harnesses are covered with yellow outer insulation for easy identification. To avoid the possibility of personal injury, if it is necessary to disconnect the SRS harness, install the short connector on the air bag, then disconnect the wire harness. Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if there is an open circuit or damage to the wiring.

  1. Start engine and allow it to warm up until the cooling fan comes on.
  2.
  3. Pull out the service connector, located under the middle of the dash. Connect the WHT/GRN and BRN terminals with a jumper wire.
  4.
  5. Check the idle speed and adjust as required.
  6.
  7. Connect the timing light to the No. 1 plug wire; while engine idles, point light toward pointer on timing belt cover.
  8.
  9. Inspect ignition timing at idle. Timing should be 15 plus or minus 2 degrees BTDC, using the RED timing mark, at 700plus or minus50 rpm in N .
  10.
  11. If timing adjustment is necessary, complete the following:
    1. Remove control box upper cover and ignition timing adjuster from control box.
    2.
    3. Drill 2 rivets off with a 1 / 8 in. drill bit, then separate stay cover from adjuster.
    4.
