REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Integra
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the dashboard lower panel, left knee bolster and left kick panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Center punch each of the shear bolts and drill the heads off with a 3 / 16 in. drill bit. Be sure to be careful not to damage the switch body when removing the shear head.
  8.  
  9. Remove the shear bolts from the switch body.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the new ignition switch without the key inserted. Loosely tighten the new shear bolts. Make sure the projection of the ignition switch is aligned with the hole in the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Insert the ignition key and check for proper operation of the steering wheel lock and that the ignition key turns freely.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the shear bolts until the heads twist off.
  6.  

1986-90 Legend
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column lower cover. Disconnect the ignition switch wire connector from the dash fuse box.
  4.  
  5. Insert the key and place on the 0 position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 screws and replace the base of the switch.
  8.  

The air bag system wire harness is routed near the steering lock assembly. All air bag system wire harness and connectors are colored yellow. Do not use electrical test equipment on these circuits. Be careful not to damage the air bag system wire harness when servicing the steering lock.

  1. To remove the lock, remove the steering wheel and the steering column covers.
  2.  
  3. Center punch each of the shear bolts and drill their heads off with a 3 / 16 in. drill bit. Be careful not to damage the switch body when removing the shear head.
  4.  
  5. Remove the shear bolts from the switch body.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the new ignition switch without the key inserted. Loosely tighten the new shear bolts. Make sure the projection of the ignition switch is aligned with the hole in the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Insert the ignition key and check for proper operation of the steering wheel lock and that the ignition key turns freely.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the shear bolts until the heads twist off.
  6.  

1991-93 Legend
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. On Legend, remove the switches from the lower dashboard panel and remove the panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the knee bolster and the lower dash frame, as required.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column mounts and lower the column.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the switch wiring and remove the 2 screws to remove the switch.
  10.  
  11. To remove the lock, grind a slot into the shear bolt head and use a chisel to unscrew and remove the bolt.
  12.  
  13. Insert the key and turn to the first position. Push in the lock pin in the service hole and pull the lock assembly out of the column.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the new lock and loosely install the shear bolt. Make sure the switch operates freely before twisting off the head.
  2.  
  3. Install the switch and connect the wiring.
  4.  
  5. Secure the column in place, install the dashboard panels and connect the battery.
  6.  

Vigor
  1. Disable the air bag system and remove the steering column covers.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the 7 pin connector from the dash fuse box.
  6.  
  7. If the ignition key is available, insert the key into the lock and turn to the 0 position.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 screws to remove the switch from the left side of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. To remove the lock with the key, turn the cover around the lock about 45 degrees and remove the screw. Pull the cover off the lock cylinder and remove the light from the cover.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition key to the 1 position and push the pin near the screw hole to release the lock cylinder from the steering column.
  14.  
  15. If the ignition key is not available, use a 3/16 in. drill bit to drill out the shear bolts from the top and remove the lock body.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Install the lock body without the ignition key and loosely install the new shear bolts.
  2.  
  3. Check the operation of the steering lock, then tighten the shear bolts until the heads twist off.
  4.  
  5. To install the lock cylinder, turn the key to the 0 position and align the cylinder with the body.
  6.  
  7. Turn the key almost to the 1 position and insert the cylinder to let the pin click into place. Install the screw.
  8.
