The rear suspension on this vehicle uses a panhard rod and a torsion beam stabilizer bar to control wheel motion. Pressed onto the spindle is a swing bearing unit that allows proper movement of the trailing arm. This procedure includes removing the swing bearing housing to replace the bearing.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the rear wheels.
  2.
  3. Remove the brake caliper without disconnecting the hydraulic hose. Support the caliper so it does not hang by the hose.
  4.
  5. Remove the brake disc.
  6.
  7. Remove the hub cap and the nut and washer. The torque on the nut is very high, make sure the vehicle is firmly supported and will not fall.
  8.
  9. Remove the hub/bearing unit from the spindle. The bearing is a sealed unit pressed into the hub.
  10.
  11. Remove the hub unit and splash guard.
  12.
  13. Remove the stabilizer control arm and remove the caliper bracket or brake plate.
  14.
  15. Unbolt the swing bearing housing and remove it.
  16.
  17. Press the spindle out of the bearing housing, being careful to not damage the threads.
  18.
  19. The bearing can be pressed out of the housing but the inner race may stay with the spindle. It can be removed with a bearing puller.
  20.

To install:
  1. When installing the new bearing, be sure to press only on the outer race or the bearing will be destroyed.
  2.
  3. When pressing the spindle into the bearing, be sure to support the inner race or the bearing will be destroyed.
  4.
  5. When installing the swing bearing housing, torque the self-locking nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). Torque the stabilizer control arm nuts to 29 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) with the vehicle is on its wheels.
  6.

Fig. Fig. 3: Removing the rear hub-1990-93 Integra

  10.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the hub nut to 134 ft. lbs. (185 Nm) and the caliper mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  2.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the rear wheels.
  2.
  3. Remove the caliper without disconnecting the hydraulic hose. Support the caliper so it does not hang by the hose.
  4.
  5. Remove the disc by pressing it off with a pair of 8mm bolts threaded into the holes between the studs. Turn each bolt 2 turns at a time.
  6.
  7. Place a floor jack under the lower arm and compress the spring slightly.
  8.
  9. Remove the hub carrier lower bolt and separate the carrier from the lower arm.
  10.
  11. Remove the damper assembly pinch bolt and slowly lower the floor jack to remove the hub carrier.
  12.
  13. To remove the hub and bearing, remove the hub cap from the rear of the carrier and remove the nut. The torque on the nut is very high. Properly secure the hub in a holding fixture and be careful to not damage the hub studs when removing the nut.
  14.
  15. The hub must be pressed out of the carrier. Be careful not to damage the spindle threads.
  16.
  17. Remove the splash guard and the 68mm circlip.
  18.
  19. Press the bearing out towards the outside of the carrier.
  20.
  21. The inner race may stay with the hub. It can be removed with a bearing puller.
  22.

To install:
  1. Press a new bearing into the carrier. Make sure to press only on the outer race or the bearing will be destroyed.
  2.
  3. Install the circlip and the splash shield.
  4.
  5. Press the hub into the carrier. Make sure to support the inner race or the bearing will be destroyed.
  6.
  7. Properly secure the hub in a holding fixture and install the spindle washer and nut. Torque the nut to 180 ft. lbs. (250 Nm). Install the O-ring and cap.
  8.
  9. Install the carrier in the reverse order of removal. Torque the caliper bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Torque the lower bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) and the damper pinch bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).

CAUTION
Spindle nut torque is very high. Tighten or loosen the spindle nut only with the vehicle on the ground. Attempting to loosen or torque the spindle nut while the vehicle is on jack stands or a lift may cause the vehicle to fall.

  1. With the vehicle on the ground, remove the hub cap and pry the spindle nut lock tab away from the spindle. Loosen the nut.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle and remove the rear wheels.
  4.
  5. Remove the caliper without disconnecting the hydraulic hose. Support the caliper so it does not hang by the hose.
  6.
  7. Remove the disc by pressing it off with a pair of 8mm bolts threaded into the holes between the studs. Turn each bolt 2 turns at a time.
  8.
  9. Remove the spindle nut and remove the hub/bearing unit from the knuckle. The bearing is a sealed unit pressed into the hub.
  10.

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the caliper bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). With the vehicle on the ground, torque the spindle nut to 180 ft. lbs. (250 Nm) for the 1988-89 Legend, 206 ft. lbs. (285 Nm) for the 1990-93 Legend, 134 ft. lbs. (185 Nm) for the Vigor and stake the nut to the spindle.
