CAUTION
Do not open the radiator draincock or remove the radiator cap when the cooling system is hot and under pressure. This can cause serious burns from hot, pressurized coolant. Allow a sufficient amount of time for the cooling system to cool down before opening up the system.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.
  5. Remove any radiator hoses that interfere with the removal of the fans.
  6.
  7. Detach the fan motor connectors.
  8.
  9. Remove the fan shroud assemblies.
  10.
  11. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  12.

TESTING

  1. Detach the fan motor electrical connector.
  2.
  3. Check to be sure that the radiator fan rotates when battery voltage is applied between the connector terminals.
  4.
  5. Check that abnormal noises are not produced while the fan motor is turning.
  6.
  7. If the fan runs normally, the motor is functioning properly.
  8.
  9. If not, replace the fan module using the procedure earlier in this section.
  10.

If the motor is noticeably overheated, the system voltage may be too high.
