Removal & Installation



2001-02 Models
  1. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center console, as follows:
    NOTE
    When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. Take care not to scratch the front seat, dashboard, and related parts.

    1. Detach the clips by hand, and remove the center panel lower trim (A).

    3. Remove the console panel (A), by detaching the clips (B) by pulling the cup holder (C) up, then remove it. Remove the shift indicator trim ring (D). Gently detach the clips (E), then remove the console panel. Disconnect the seat heater switch connectors (F).

    5. Detach the clips and release the hooks, then remove the driver's console side trim and passenger's console side trim.
    6.  
    7. Gently pull out the console rear trim to detach the clips and to release the hooks, then disconnect the rear heater-A/C passenger's control panel-unit connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the center console (A): Remove the bolts (B) and screws (C), detach the harness clip (D) and pull the center console back to detach the clips (E)

  5. Slide the hose clamps back, then disconnect the inlet heater hose and the outlet heater hose from the rear heater core. Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on the electrical parts or the painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.

  7. Remove the self-tapping screws and the clamps. Carefully pull out the rear heater core so you don't bend the inlet and outlet pipes.

To install:

  1. Install the heater core in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Do not interchange the inlet and outlet heater hoses, and install the hose clamps securely.
    2.  
    3. Refill the cooling system with engine coolant.
    4.  
    5. Make sure that there is no coolant leakage.
    6.

  3. Install the center console in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Replace any damaged clips.
    2.  
    3. Make sure all the connectors are plugged in properly.

2003-06 Models
  1. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
    NOTE
    This procedure requires the use of KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 or its equivalent.

  3. Remove the center console, as follows:
    NOTE
    Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components. Take care not to scratch the front seat, dashboard, and related parts.

    1. Remove the console panel (A), by detaching the clips (B) by pulling the cup holder (C) up, then remove it. Remove the shift indicator trim ring (D). Gently detach the clips (E), then remove the console panel. Disconnect the seat heater switch connectors (F).

    3. On models without rear entertainment system: Detach the clips by hand, and remove the center panel lower trim.

    5. On models with rear entertainment system: Remove the coin pocket. Pull the DVD panel out to detach the clips, then remove the panel.

    7. Detach the clips and release the hooks, then remove the driver's console side trim and passenger's console side trim.

    9. Gently pull out the console rear trim (A) to detach the clips and to release the hooks (B), then disconnect the rear heater-A/C passenger's control panel-unit connector (C).
