2001-02 Models



  1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
    NOTE
    Cover the crankshaft pulley with several shop towels to protect if from spilled power steering fluid.

  4.  
  5. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (A) and pump outlet hose (B) from the pump (C), and plug them. Make sure not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid immediately.
  6.  
  7. Remove the belt (D) by loosening the pump adjusting nut (E), then remove pump mounting bolt (F), nut (G) and pump. Do not turn the steering wheel with pump removed.

To install:

  1. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolt and nut.
  4.  
  5. Install the pump belt on the pulley. Make sure the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys. Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  8.  
  9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.

2003-06 Models



  1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt (A) from the pump pulley, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pump mounting bolts (B).
  8.  
  9. Cover the auto-tensioner, alternator, and A/C compressor with several shop towels to protect it from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (C) and pump outlet hose (D) from the pump (E), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once.
    WARNING
    Do not turn the steering wheel with the pump removed.

To install:

  1. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely.
  2.  
  3. Install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts. Tighten to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the drive belt (A). Make sure that the drive belt is properly positioned on the pulleys (B). Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the auto-tensioner, alternator, A/C compressor, and drive belt, or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.
  6.  
  7. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.
