Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle, allowing the front suspension to hang free.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft links.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tie rods (3) from the steering knuckles (6).

  9. Remove the bolt from the rear transmission mount (4).

  11. Remove the power steering line bracket from the suspension crossmember.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolts (1) from the clamps (2) attaching the stabilizer shaft (3) to the crossmember (4).

  15. Support the rear of the crossmember (4) with an adjustable jack stand.
  16.  
  17. Remove the rear bolts (3) from the crossmember (4).
  18.  
  19. Loosen the front bolts (5) on the crossmember (4).
  20.  
  21. Lower the crossmember (4) three inches by adjusting the jack stands down.

  23. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear bolts (3) to the crossmember (4) in the following order:
    1. Tighten the left rear bolt to 71 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the right rear bolt to 71 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Tighten the left front bolt to 71 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Tighten the right front bolt to 71 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).

  5. Install the clamps (2) and the bolts (1) to the stabilizer shaft (3). Tighten the bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (66 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the power steering line bracket to the suspension crossmember.
  8.  
  9. Install the bolt (1) to the rear transmission mount (4). Tighten the bolt to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the tie rods (3) to the steering knuckles (6).
  12.  
  13. Install the stabilizer shaft links.
  14.  
  15. Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
  16.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle, allowing the front suspension to hang free.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft links.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tie rods (3) from the steering knuckles (6).

  9. Remove the bolt from the rear transmission mount (4).

  11. Remove the bolt from the rear transmission mount (4).
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering line bracket from the suspension crossmember.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts (1) from the clamps (2) attaching the stabilizer shaft (3) to the crossmember (4).

  17. Support the rear of the crossmember (4) with an adjustable jack stand.
  18.  
  19. Remove the control arm to body bolts (3).
  20.  
  21. Loosen the front bolts (5) on the crossmember (4).
  22.  
  23. Remove the rear crossmember to body bolts.
  24.  
  25. Lower the crossmember (4) three inches by adjusting the jack stands down.
  26.  
  27. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the front crossmember bolts (5). Tighten the front crossmember bolts to 180 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the control arm to body bolts (3). Tighten the control arm to body bolts to 180 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the rear crossmember body bolts. Tighten the rear crossmember bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).

  9. Install the clamps (2) and the bolts (1) to the stabilizer shaft (3). Tighten the bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (66 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the power steering line bracket to the suspension crossmember.
  12.  
  13. Install the bolt (1) to the rear transmission mount (4). Tighten the bolt to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the tie rods (3) to the steering knuckles (6).
  16.  
  17. Install the stabilizer shaft links.
  18.  
  19. Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the stabilizer link nut (2) from the stabilizer link bolt (5).
  2.  
  3. Remove the following components:
    1. Stabilizer link bolts (5)
    2.  
    3. Insulator (4)
    4.  
    5. Spacer (3)

To install:

  1. Install the following components:
    1. Spacer (3)
    2.  
    3. Insulator (4)
    4.  
    5. Stabilizer link bolts (5)
    6.  

  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer link nut (4) attaching the stabilizer link to the stabilizer link bolt (5). Tighten the nut until the nut meets the end of the bolt threads for torque value. Tighten the nut to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
