Removal & Installation



With Drum Brakes

These vehicles are equipped with sealed hub and bearing assemblies. The hub and bearing assemblies are non-serviceable. If the assembly is damaged, the complete unit must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The top rear bolt will not clear the brake shoes and must be removed with the bearing assembly.



    Wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    4 hub/bearing assembly to knuckle nuts
     



    Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor wire from the hub/bearing assembly
     
    Hub/bearing assembly

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub/bearing assembly on the knuckle
     
    ABS wheel speed sensor
     
    Hub/bearing nuts. Torque the nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) on 1999 models or 62 ft. lbs. (85 Nm) on 2000-05 models to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
     
    Hub/bearing nuts.
     
    Brake drum
     
    Wheel. Torque the nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
