Removal & Installation



Except Hybrid

WARNING
Be careful of the following:



Before servicing, disconnect the battery cable from negative terminal.
 
To remove brake tube, use a flare nut wrench to prevent flare nuts and brake tube from being damaged.
 
To install, use flare nut torque wrench.
 
Do not apply excessive impact to ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), such as dropping it.
 
Do not remove and install actuator by holding harness.
 
After work is completed, bleed air from brake tube.
 

  1. Remove front wiper arms, as outlined in the Wiper Motor procedure in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove cowl top, as outlined in the Wiper Motor procedure in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect washer hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove front suspension tower bar, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) connector.
  10.  
  11. Loosen brake tube flare nuts, then remove brake tubes from ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).
  12.  
  13. Remove ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) nuts.
  14.  
  15. Remove ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) from vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove bracket as necessary.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:

    Before servicing, disconnect the battery cable from negative terminal.
     
    To remove brake tube, use a flare nut wrench to prevent flare nuts and brake tube from being damaged.
     
    To install, use flare nut torque wrench.
     
    Do not apply excessive impact to ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), such as dropping it.
     
    Do not remove and install actuator by holding harness.
     
    After work is completed, bleed air from brake tube, as outlined in this section..
     
    After installing harness connector in the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), make sure connector is securely locked.
