Removal & Installation

Hybrid

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2007-2008

CAUTION

Disconnect the 12-volt battery negative terminal for two minutes after turning the Hybrid System OFF. During this period, do not open/close doors, nor step on the brake pedal.

Note the location of each tube on removal to avoid an improper connection during installation.

To remove brake tube, use a flare nut wrench to prevent flare nuts and brake tube from being damaged.

To install, use flare nut torque wrench.

Do not apply excessive impact to brake actuator, such as dropping it.

Do not remove and install actuator by holding harness.

After work is completed, bleed air from brake tube.

NOTE
If brake fluid spills on any painted surface, wash or otherwise remove it completely.

Perform accumulator pressure zero down.

Disconnect 12-volt battery negative terminal.

  1. Disconnect high voltage battery.
  2.
  3. Remove ABS motor relay No. 1 and No. 2.
    NOTE
If the pump motor operates while air remains inside the brake actuator hose, the air will enter the actuator resulting in difficulty in bleeding the brakes.

  4.
  5. Relieve fuel pressure.
  6.
  7. Drain brake fluid.
  8.
  9. Remove front wiper arms.
  10.
  11. Remove cowl top and cowl top extension.
  12.
  13. Disconnect washer hose.
  14.
  15. Remove tower bar.
  16.
  17. Remove air cleaner duct and air duct hose.
  18.
  19. Remove fuel tube.
  20.
  21. Remove intake manifold assembly and place throttle body assembly aside.
  22.
  23. Remove brake reservoir.
  24.
  25. Release brake actuator connector lever, then disconnect brake actuator connector in the direction of arrow as shown in "Exploded View".

  26.
  27. Loosen brake tube flare nuts, then remove brake tubes from brake actuator.
    NOTE
Do not damage the brake lines.

  28.
  29. Remove brake actuator nuts.
  30.
  31. Remove brake actuator from vehicle.
  32.
  33. Remove bracket as necessary.
  34.

To install:

  1. Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal.
    CAUTION

Before servicing, disconnect the 12-volt battery negative terminal.

Do not remove the hole plug before connecting the brake line because a new brake actuator assembly is filled with brake fluid.

Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 10 inches (250 mm).

This torque value is effective when flare nut crowfoot is parallel to a torque wrench.

To remove brake tube, use a flare nut wrench to prevent flare nuts and brake tube from being damaged.

To install, use flare nut torque wrench.

Do not apply excessive impact to brake actuator, such as dropping it.

Do not remove and install brake actuator by holding harness.

After work is completed, bleed air from brake tube.

After installing connector in the brake actuator, make sure connector is securely locked.

After erasing Brake ECU memories, perform zero adjustment of following sensors and initialization of linear solenoid valve. These procedures should be performed on a flat place.
