Removal & Installation



2.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front air duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the blow-by hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two brake ECU nuts and set the brake ECU aside.
  10.  
  11. Remove the RH engine mount torque rod.

  13. Use a suitable tool to support the engine assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the RH engine support bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the RH engine mounting bracket.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  20.  
  21. Remove the ignition coils.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the fuel injectors and position the fuel injector harness aside.
  24.  
  25. Loosen the bolts in the numerical order as shown.

  27. Remove the rocker cover and the rocker cover gasket. Discard the rocker cover gasket.
    CAUTION
    Do not reuse the rocker cover gasket.

  29. Remove the oil filler cap if necessary, to transfer to the new rocker cover.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Apply RTV Silicone Sealant to the joint part of the cylinder head and camshaft bracket using the following steps:
    1. Follow left side illustration to apply sealant to joint part of No.1 camshaft bracket and cylinder head.

    3. Follow right side illustration to apply sealant in a 90 degree angle to the left side illustration.

  3. Install the rocker cover and the new rocker cover gasket.
    NOTE
    The rocker cover gasket must be securely installed in the groove in the rocker cover.

  5. Tighten the rocker cover bolts in two steps, in the numerical order as shown.

    1. Step 1: 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm)

    3. Step 2: 74 inch lbs. (8 Nm)

  7. Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.

3.5L Engine
Left Side

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2009-2010

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove front air duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove blow by hose from rocker cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove camshaft position sensor.
    CAUTION



    Handle carefully to avoid dropping and shocks.
     
    Do not disassemble.
     
    Do not allow metal powder to adhere to magnetic part at sensor tip.
     
    Do not place sensors in a location where they are exposed to magnetism.
     

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the ignition coil connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove the ignition coils.
    CAUTION
    Never shock ignition coils.

  12.  
  13. Remove LH rocker cover bolts from cylinder head as shown.

To install:

  1. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
  2.  
  3. Apply sealant to the areas on the front corners.

  5. Tighten the rocker cover bolts in two steps in the order as shown.

Right Side

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2009-2010

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front air duct and air duct hose.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold collector.
  6.  
  7. Remove ignition coils.
    CAUTION
    Never shock ignition coils.

  8.  
  9. Remove camshaft position sensor.
    CAUTION



    Handle carefully to avoid dropping and shocks.
     
    Do not disassemble.
     
    Do not allow metal powder to adhere to magnetic part at sensor tip (A).
     
    Do not place sensors in a location where they are exposed to magnetism.
     

  10.  
  11. Remove RH rocker cover bolts from cylinder head as shown.

To install:

  1. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
  2.  
  3. Apply sealant to the areas on the front corners.
