Removal & Installation
Motor

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2007-2008

  1. Close glass lid assembly.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
  4.  
  5. Remove map lamp assembly from headliner.
  6.  
  7. Remove sunroof motor screws (A).
  8.  
  9. Disconnect harness connector (2) and remove sunroof motor (1) from sunroof unit assembly front end rail.
    WARNING
    Never run the removed sunroof motor as a single unit.

To install:

  1. Move sunroof motor laterally little by little so that the gear is completely engaged into the wire on the sunroof unit assembly, and the mounting surfaces become parallel. Install the sunroof motor screws, and tighten to the specified torque.
    WARNING
    Before installing the motor, be sure to place the link and wire assembly in the symmetrical and fully closed position.


    NOTE
    If necessary, insert a suitable tool into the drive key (3) and rotate right or left slightly to assist in complete sunroof motor gear alignment.

  3. Remainder of installation is in the reverse order of removal.
  4.  
  5. Connect battery positive and negative terminals.
  6.  
  7. Synchronize sunroof motor with sunroof unit assembly, as follows:
    NOTE
    If the sunroof does not close or open automatically, use the following procedure to return sunroof operation to normal.

    1. Push the tilt up switch and start the tilt up operation.
    2.  
    3. Release the tilt up switch once, press the tilt up switch again, keep pushing the switch until lid pops up.
    4.  
    5. The glass lid will more toward tilt up direction and will be stopped mechanically, and then it will be automatically fully closed. (keep pushing the switch during this operation)
    6.  
    7. Release the switch again, and push the tilt up switch within the first 10 seconds. (keep pushing the switch)
    8.  
    9. After 4 seconds, the glass lid will be automatically operated in sequence of tilt down, slide open and slide close.
    10.  
    11. After the glass lid stops, release the switch 0.5 second later. (keep pushing the switch during this operation)
    12.  
    13. If slide switch operates normally, this initialization is done.
    14.

  9. Perform a test to check the anti-pinch function, as follows:
    1. Full open the sunroof.
    2.  
    3. Place a piece of wood near fully closed position.
    4.  
    5. Close the sunroof completely with auto-slide close.
    6.  
    7. Check that sunroof lowers for approximately 150mm (5.91 in) or 2 seconds without pinching a piece of wood and stops.
      WARNING
      Do not check with hands and other part of body because they may be pinched. Do not get pinched. Depending on environment and driving conditions, if a similar impact or load is applied to the sunroof it may lower. Check that auto-slide operates before inspection when system initialization is performed. Perform initial setting when auto-slide operation or anti-pinch function does not operate normally.

Nissan Altima 2009-2010

  1. Close glass lid assembly.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative and positive battery terminals.
  4.  
  5. Remove the room/map lamp assembly from headliner.
  6.  
  7. Remove sunroof motor screws.

  9. Disconnect harness connector and remove sunroof motor from sunroof unit assembly front end rail.
    CAUTION
    Never run the removed sunroof motor as a single unit.

To install:

  1. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
    CAUTION
    Before installing the motor, be sure to place the link and wire assembly in the symmetrical and fully closed position.

Sunroof Unit

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2007-2008


NOTE
After installing either sunroof unit assembly or glass lid assembly, check gap/height adjustments and operation to make sure there is no malfunction.


NOTE
When removing the sunroof unit assembly, please note the following:



Always work with a helper.
 
Handle glass lid assembly with care to prevent damage.
 
When taking sunroof unit out, use shop cloths to protect the seats and trim from damage.
 

  1. Close glass lid assembly.
  2.  
  3. For Coupes, remove headlining, as follows:
    WARNING
    Be careful not to bend headlining during removal or installation.

    1. Recline the front seats to the fully reclined position.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
    4.  
    5. Remove front pillar finisher (RH/LH).
    6.  
    7. Remove rear seat cushion and seatbacks.
    8.  
    9. Remove door welts (RH/LH).
    10.  
    11. Remove upper and lower rear pillar finishers.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect headlining harness and antenna feeder connectors.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect antenna amplifier and rear window defogger connectors.
    16.  
    17. Release the molded clip, then remove assist grips.
    18.  
    19. Remove the sunvisor covers and screws, and then remove sunvisor (RH/LH).
    20.  
    21. Insert a suitable thin tool into the sunvisor holder notch and press in to release the locking tab. Rotate sunvisor holder 90 degrees and pull away from headlining to remove.
    22.  
    23. Remove map lamp bracket and map lamp assembly.
    24.  
    25. For sunroof equipped vehicles, use a suitable tool to release dual lock fastener(s) around the sunroof opening and release the sunroof clip.
    26.  
    27. Remove rear view mirror.
    28.  
    29. Release the three hidden clips near the rear edge of headliner using a suitable clip removal tool.
      WARNING
      Two people are necessary for headlining removal (one for each front and rear of headlining). Cover center console finisher upper surface with a shop cloth to prevent damage.

    31. Drop headlining down and carefully rotate into position. Remove headlining through door opening.

  5. For Sedans, remove headlining, as follows:
    WARNING
    Be careful not to bend headlining during removal or installation.

    1. Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables.
    2.  
    3. Remove front pillar finisher (RH/LH).
    4.  
    5. Disconnect headlining harness and antenna feeder connectors.
    6.  
    7. Remove center pillar upper and rear pillar finishers.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect antenna amplifier and rear window defogger connectors.
    10.  
    11. Release the molded clip, then remove front and rear assist grips.
    12.  
    13. Remove the sunvisor covers and screws, and then remove sunvisor (RH/LH). If equipped, disconnect vanity mirror illumination harness connector.
    14.  
    15. Insert a suitable thin tool into the sunvisor holder notch and press in to release the locking tab. Rotate sunvisor holder 90 degrees and pull away from headlining to remove.
    16.  
    17. Remove map lamp assembly. For sunroof equipped vehicles: Release the pawls and lower map lamp assembly away from headliner.
    18.  
    19. Disconnect the map lamp and sunroof switch connectors, then remove the map lamp assembly. For non-sunroof equipped vehicles: The map lamp assembly is an integral part of the headlining, and repaired only as an assembly.
    20.  
    21. For sunroof equipped vehicles, use a suitable tool to release dual lock fastener(s) around the sunroof opening and release the sunroof clip.
    22.  
    23. Release the three hidden clips near the rear edge of headliner using a suitable clip removal tool.
    24.  
    25. Place gear selector lever to D position, then recline the front seats to the fully reclined position.
    26.  
    27. Drop headlining down and carefully rotate into position. Remove headlining through rear door opening.
      WARNING
      Two people are necessary for headlining removal (one for each front and rear of headlining). Cover center console finisher upper surface with a shop cloth to prevent damage.

    29. Drop headlining down and carefully rotate into position. Remove headlining through door opening.
    30.  
    31. The following components are integral to the headliner and are repaired only as an assembly:

      Personal lamp (LH/RH).
       
      Roof harness assembly.
       
      Antenna feeder assembly.

  7. Disconnect drain hoses.
  8.  
  9. Remove screws (A), then pull sunroof switch bracket (1) away from sunroof unit assembly (2).

  11. Disconnect sunroof motor harness connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove bolts on the front end and side rails of the sunroof unit assembly.

  15. Remove front sunroof side bracket bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove rear sunroof side bracket bolts and remove sunroof unit assembly from roof panel.
  18.  
  19. Remove sunroof unit assembly through the passenger compartment while being careful not to damage the seats and trim.

To install:

  1. Loosely tighten the rear sunroof side bracket bolts to the sunroof unit assembly side rails.
  2.  
  3. Bring sunroof unit into passenger compartment and loosely tighten rear sunroof side bracket bolts to roof panel while supporting front.
  4.  
  5. Align the sunroof unit assembly front end rail and side rails with the locator pins, then loosely tighten the bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install remaining sunroof side brackets and loosely tighten bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the sunroof unit assembly front end and side rail bolts diagonally to the specified torque.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the front sunroof side bracket bolts at the vehicle side first, then at the side rail end.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the rear sunroof side bracket bolts at the vehicle side first, then at the side rail end.
  14.  
  15. Connect sunroof motor harness connector.
  16.  
  17. Install sunroof switch bracket.
  18.  
  19. Connect drain hoses.
  20.  
  21. Install headlining, as follows:

Reset/Initialization Procedure
Anti-Pinch Function

Specific to:

Nissan Altima 2007-2008

  1. Full open the sunroof.

NOTE

  3. Release the tilt up switch once, press the tilt up switch again, keep pushing the switch until lid pops up.
