Rear Window Wiper/Washer Systems

Removal & Installation



Wiper Motor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wiper arm from the rear wiper motor output shaft.
    NOTE
    The output shaft bezel and grommet does not have to be removed to remove the rear wiper motor from the liftgate.

  6.  
  7. Remove the trim panel from the liftgate inner panel.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the rear wiper motor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the three screws that secure the motor mounting bracket to the liftgate inner panel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the motor from the liftgate.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bezel and rubber grommet on the outer liftgate panel from the output shaft housing. Be certain to take proper precautions to protect the outer liftgate panel and its paint finish from damage during this procedure.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Wiper Washer

A single washer fluid reservoir is used for both the front and rear washer systems.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Reach between the front of the left front wheel house splash shield and the front bumper support to access the rearward facing lower surface of the washer reservoir.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the top of the washer pump/motor unit.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the front washer hose from the inboard pump outlet nipple and allow the washer fluid to drain into a clean container for reuse.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the rear washer hose from the outboard pump outlet nipple.
  12.  
  13. Grasp the top of the washer pump/motor housing and pull it firmly rearward far enough to disengage the snap post on the top of the motor from the receptacle in the reservoir.
  14.  
  15. Grasp the lower part of the washer pump/motor housing and, using a back and forth twisting action, pull the unit rearward from the reservoir far enough to disengage the pump inlet nipple from the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir.
  16.  
  17. Remove the rubber grommet seal from the washer pump mounting hole in the reservoir and discard.
  18.  
  19. Installation is the reverse of removal.
