Removal & Installation




NOTE
Make sure to keep all valvetrain components in order as you remove them. They must be reinstalled in their original locations.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Oil filler tube
     
    Engine coolant temperature sensor
     
    PCV valve hose assembly
     
    Valve cover
     
    Rocker arm
     
    Rocker arm supports
     
    Pushrod(s)
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Inspect and replace components if worn or damaged.
  2.  
  3. Install pushrods making sure they seat properly in the lifter.
  4.  
  5. Install rocker arm supports.
  6.  
  7. Apply a suitable prelube to the following rocker arm contact surfaces:
    1. Valve pushrod socket (1).
    2.  
    3. Roller pivot (2).
    4.  
    5. Valve stem tip (3).

  9. Install the rocker arms as follows:
    1. Finger-start bolt at locations 1, 2 and then 3.
    2.  
    3. Finger-start the remaining rocker arm bolts.

  11. Rotate the crankshaft balancer to position the alignment mark (1) 57-63 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise from the engine front cover alignment tab.

  13. Tighten the rocker arm bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    NOTE
    Once the rocker arms are installed and tightening properly, no additional valve lash adjustment is necessary.

  15. Install or connect the following:

    Valve cover
     
    PCV valve hose assembly
     
    Engine coolant temperature sensor
     
    Oil filler tube
     
    Engine cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  16.  
  17. Start and run the engine, then check for leaks and for proper ignition timing adjustment.
