Adjustments

NOTE
Before adjusting the parking brakes, check the condition of the service brakes; replace any necessary parts.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Under the left center of the vehicle, loosen the equalizer.
  4.  
  5. Position the parking brake pedal on the second click (2 ratchet clicks).
  6.  
  7. Turn the cable equalizer until the rear wheel drags (when turned by hand).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the equalizer lock nut.
  10.  
  11. Release the parking brake pedal, then test it; the correct adjustment should be 9-16 clicks.

WARNING
Before you adjust the park brake, verify that the park brake shoes are adjusted to provide a clearance of 0.026 in. (0.6604mm).

  1. Rotate the rear wheels and note the amount of brake and driveline drag.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the adjuster, periodically turning the rear wheels by hand until the drag begins to increase.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Fully apply and release the park brake lever to the floor 3 times.
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Repeat step 2.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the adjuster until the brake drag is the same as noted in step 1.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.
