Operation



The amount of fuel sent to the injectors is affected, in part, by the signals to the ECM from the altitude compensator. As altitude increases (decreasing air pressure) the fuel mixture will be adjusted accordingly. The altitude compensator continuously adapts the injected fuel quantity to the changing air pressure.

Removal & Installation



  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the barometric sensor harness electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable tool, remove the barometric sensor.
  6.  
  7. Installation is in reverse order of removal.
  8.  

Testing



  1. Disconnect the three-pin connector at sensor.

  3. Switch on the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Connect the multimeter to the following connector terminals for voltage measurement:

    Terminal 1 and Terminal 3
     
    Terminal 2 and Terminal 3
     

  6.  
  7. Specified value: 4.5 to 5.5 V
  8.  
  9. If the specified values are not obtained:
    1. Connect the test box to the control module wiring harness.
    2.  
    3. Check the wiring between the test box and the 3-pin connector for open circuit.

      Terminal 1 and socket 61
       
      Terminal 2 and socket 62
       
      Terminal 3 and socket 67
       

    4.  

  10.  
  11. The resistance between any of the wires should be 1.5 Kohms maximum.
  12.  
  13. Check the wiring for a short circuit. There should be no resistance.
  14.  
  15. Check the wiring for a short circuit to battery power or ground. There should be no resistance.
  16.  

  1. Disconnect the three-pin connector at sensor.

  3. Switch on the ignition.
  4.  
  5. Connect the multimeter to the following connector terminals for voltage measurement:

    Terminal 1 and Terminal 3
     
    Terminal 2 and Terminal 3
     

  6.  
  7. Specified value: 4.5 to 5.5 V
  8.  
  9. If the specified values are not obtained:
    1. Connect the test box to the control module wiring harness.
    2.  
    3. Check the wiring between the test box and the 3-pin connector for open circuit.

      Terminal 1 and socket 61
       
      Terminal 2 and socket 62
       
      Terminal 3 and socket 67

  11. The resistance between any of the wires should be 1.5 Kohms maximum.
  12.  
  13. Check the wiring for a short circuit. There should be no resistance.
  14.  
  15. Check the wiring for a short circuit to battery power or ground. There should be no resistance.
  16.  

  1. Disconnect the three-pin connector at sensor.

  9. If the specified values are not obtained:
    1. Connect the test box to the control module wiring harness.

    3. Check the wiring between the test box and the 3-pin connector for open circuit.

      Terminal 3 and socket 67
