NOTE
When servicing the terminals in the harness connector of Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), use only gold-plated terminals.

  1. Connect to the vehicle diagnosis and service system (VAS).
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and let it run at idle.
  4.  
  5. Under address word "33 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD)", select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
  6.  
  7. Select "Test-ID 01: Oxygen sensor monitoring before catalytic converter" .
  8.  
  9. Select "Test-ID 131: Dynamic test" and check whether specified values are obtained.
  10.  
  11. If the specified values are not obtained:
  12.  
  13. Check the oxygen sensor wiring.
  14.  
  15. Connect the test box to the wiring harness of the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM)
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the black 6-pin harness connector to the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).

    Terminal 1 and socket 52
     
    Terminal 2 and socket 51
     
    Terminal 3 and socket 36
     
    Terminal 5 and socket 71
     
    Terminal 6 and socket 70

  21. Wire resistance: max. 1.5 ohms
  22.  
  23. Check the wires for short circuit to each other, to Battery (+) and Ground (GND).
  24.  
  25. Specified value: infinite ohms
  26.  
  27. If the wires are okay, replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) G39 before catalytic converter.

NOTE

  17. Disconnect the black 6-pin harness connector to the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).

Heater Circuit

To check the heated circuit of the O 2 S sensor:

  1. With the ignition OFF, check the resistance between terminal Nos. 1 and 2 of the O 2 S sensor connector. At room temperature the resistance should be 0.0-24.2 ohms.
  2.  
  3. With the ignition OFF and the O 2 S sensor disconnected, use a suitable DMM to check the voltage between terminal Nos. 1 (+) and 2 (-). Start the engine and allow the engine to idle. The reading should be about 12-14 volts. If the voltage is not present, check the fuses and electrical wiring.
  4.
