Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

Operation



The amount of fuel sent to the injectors is affected, in part, by the signals to the ECM from the altitude compensator. As altitude increases (decreasing air pressure) the fuel mixture will be adjusted accordingly. The altitude compensator continuously adapts the injected fuel quantity to the changing air pressure.

Removal & Installation



  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor harness electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable tool, remove Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor.
  6.  
  7. Installation is in reverse order of removal.
  8.  

Testing




NOTE
Use only gold-plated terminals when servicing the terminals in the harness connector of the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor .

  1. Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor (arrow).
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and run at idle speed.
  4.  
  5. Measure the voltage between terminals 1 and 3 on the harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Specification: min. 4.5 V
  8.  
  9. Switch off the ignition.
  10.  
  11. If no voltage is present, connect the test box to the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM).

  13. Check the wires between the test box and the 4-pin connector for an open circuit.

    Contact 1 and socket 108
     
    Contact 2 and socket 98
     
    Contact 4 and socket 101
     

  14.  
  15. Wiring resistance: max. 1.5 ohms
  16.  
  17. Check the wires for short circuit to each other, to Band and Ground (GND).
  18.  
  19. Specification: infinite ohms
  20.  
  21. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor.
  22.  
  23. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM).
  24.  


NOTE
Use only gold-plated terminals when servicing the terminals in the harness connector of the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor .

  1. Disconnect the 4-pin connector from the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor (arrow).

  3. Start the engine and run at idle speed.

  7. Specification: min. 4.5 V
  8.  
  9. Switch off the ignition.
  10.  
  11. If no voltage is present, connect the test box to the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM).

    Contact 1 and socket 108
     
    Contact 2 and socket 98

  17. Check the wires for short circuit to each other, to Band and Ground (GND).
  18.  
  19. Specification: infinite ohms
  20.  
  21. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor.
  22.  
  23. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM).

  17. Check the wires for short circuit to each other, to Band and Ground (GND).

  21. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor.

  23. If no malfunction is detected in wiring, replace the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM).
