Upper Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



The upper control arm bushings are serviced with the control arm as an assembly.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel
     

  4.  
  5. Loosen the upper strut mounting nuts.
  6.  
  7. Loosen, but do not remove, the upper strut rod nut.
    CAUTION
    DO NOT completely remove the upper strut nut at this time.

  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Brake caliper, leaving the line attached and secure it out of the way
     
    Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor and harness, if applicable
     
    Cotter pin and nut from the upper control arm
     
    Upper control arm from the steering knuckle
     
    Stabilizer bar from the link, if applicable
     
    Cotter pin and nut from the lower control arm
     
    Strut
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut
     
    Upper control arm
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Upper suspension arm
     
    Strut. Torque the upper nuts to 42 ft. lbs. (56 Nm)
     
    Strut to the lower arm
     
    Stabilizer bar bracket
     
    Stabilizer bar to the link
     
    Upper suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Torque the nut to 64 ft. lbs. (87 Nm)
     
    New cotter pin
     
    ABS speed sensor. Torque the bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Front wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Bounce the vehicle several times to stabilize the suspension.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the lower strut bolt
  6.  
  7. Check and/or adjust the front wheel alignment.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel
     

  4.  
  5. Loosen the upper strut mounting nuts.
  6.  
  7. Loosen, but do not remove, the upper strut rod nut.
    CAUTION
    DO NOT completely remove the upper strut nut at this time.

  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Brake caliper, leaving the line attached and secure it out of the way
     
    Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor and harness, if applicable
     
    Cotter pin and nut from the upper control arm
     
    Upper control arm from the steering knuckle
     
    Stabilizer bar from the link, if applicable
     
    Cotter pin and nut from the lower control arm
     
    Strut
     
    Upper strut mounting nuts
     
    Strut
     
    Upper control arm
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Upper suspension arm
     
    Strut. Torque the upper nuts to 42 ft. lbs. (56 Nm)
     
    Strut to the lower arm
     
    Stabilizer bar bracket
     
    Stabilizer bar to the link
     
    Upper suspension arm to the steering knuckle. Torque the nut to 64 ft. lbs. (87 Nm)
     
    New cotter pin
     
    ABS speed sensor. Torque the bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Front wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Bounce the vehicle several times to stabilize the suspension.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the lower strut bolt
  6.  
  7. Check and/or adjust the front wheel alignment.
  8.
