Control Arm Bushing Replacement



  1. Note the radio security code and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control arm assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the aluminum alloy control arm into a vise with protective jaws, noting the reference lines of the bushing as it is installed.
  6.  
  7. Using bushing withdrawal Tools 3348/2, 3301/3, 3301 and 3301/1, or equivalent, extract the bushing from the control arm.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the bushing such that the reference lines are parallel with the control arm as viewed from the side.
  2.  
  3. Using the bushing installation Tools 3348/3, 3301/3, 3301 and 3301/1, or equivalent, draw the bushing into the bore of the control arm.
  4.  
  5. Install the control arm assembly.
  6.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Note the radio security code and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle, and remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the pinch bolt and pull both control arms upward and out.
  6.  
  7. Cover the steering gear boot.
  8.  
  9. Remove the guide link ball joint and press off the joint.
  10.  
  11. Detach the ABS wheel speed sensor wire front the bracket on the brake caliper.
  12.  
  13. Support the suspension from excessive rebound travel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower strut mounting bolt.
  16.  
  17. Swing the wheel bearing housing aside.
  18.  
  19. Raise the hood and remove the rubber grommets from the plenum chamber.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper strut-to-body mounting nuts.
  22.  
  23. Remove the strut together with the mounting bracket.
  24.  
  25. Clamp the strut in a vise with the protective jaw covers.
  26.  
  27. Remove the upper link bolts and detach both of the links.
  28.  
  29. Remove the bracket-to-strut mounting nuts, and then separate.

Fig. Make sure to have the control arm(s) properly positioned before tightening the bushing mounting bolt(s)

To install:

  1. Position the brackets and links and tighten the bracket-to-strut mounting nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Position the links 2 3 / 32 -2 1 / 4 (53-57mm) below the edge of the bracket, then tighten to:

Upper control arm bushing:



Step 1: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
 
Step 2: 1 / 4 turn (90°)
 

  1. Install the strut and upper strut bracket into the vehicle and tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the lower strut clevis to the control arm and tighten to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the upper control arm ball joints into the wheel bearing housing (knuckle) and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the ABS wiring to the brake caliper bracket.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, check and adjust the front suspension alignment as necessary.
