Halfshaft

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Halfshaft bolt
     
    Rear wheel
     
    Brake caliper without disconnecting the hydraulic line and support it on a wire
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Inner halfshaft flange bolts
     

  4.  
  5. Support the halfshaft.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Fuel tank cover plate and/or inner CV-joint heat shield
     
    Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor by sliding it partly out of its mount
     
    Lower strut bolt
     
    Transverse link from the wheel bearing housing
     
    Halfshaft by pressing down on wheel bearing housing
     

  8.  
  9. Clean the halfshaft splines of any grease, dirt or locking compound.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Use a new inner flange gasket and reverse the removal procedures.
  2.  
  3. Torque the halfshaft flange bolts as follows:

    M8 bolts: 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
     
    M10 bolts: 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm)
     

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Adjustment of parking brake may be necessary.



    Brake caliper. Torque the bolts to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm)
     



    Halfshaft bolt and washer assembly. Torque the bolt to 148 ft. lbs. (200 Nm) plus an additional 1 / 4 (90 degree) turn
     
    ABS speed sensor
     
    Rear wheels
