Removal & Installation

2.4L Engines



  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right engine splash shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove drive belt tensior.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove compressor hose assembly.
  14.  
  15. Unfasten the bolts and remove the compressor.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, please note the following:
    1. Install the compressor and tighten the bolts in the sequence illustrated to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
    4.  
    5. Recharge and leak test the A/C system.

3.6L Engine



  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive belt
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right front fender liner.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose
  12.  
  13. Remove and discard sealing washers.
  14.  
  15. Unfasten the bolts and remove the compressor.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, please note the following:
    1. Install the compressor and tighten the bolts in the sequence illustrated to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
    6.  
    7. Recharge and leak test the A/C system.

  1. Recover the refrigerant.

  3. Remove the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right front fender liner.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the A/C suction hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the A/C discharge hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose
  14.  
  15. Remove the compressor bolt and nut, then the compressor.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, please note the following:
    1. Replacement of the desiccant cartridge is required upon new compressor replacement.
    2.  
    3. Install suction screen after a major compressor failure.
      NOTE
      Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.

    5. When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor.
    6.  
    7. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Recharge and leak test the A/C system.
