Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine
  1. Remove the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Have an assistant install crankshaft balancer holding tool, and a breaker bar to the crankshaft balancer in order to prevent the flywheel from rotating when loosening the flywheel bolts.
    NOTE
    t may be necessary to remove the chamfer (bevel) from the edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.

  5. Loosen, remove and discard the flywheel bolts.
    NOTE
    Do not orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine. Remove the flywheel.

  7. Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the NEW flywheel bolts until snug.
  4.  
  5. Have an assistant install a crankshaft balancer holding tool, and a breaker bar to the crankshaft balancer in order to prevent the flywheel from rotating when tightening the flywheel bolts.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the flywheel bolts to 39 ft. lbs. (53 Nm) plus an additional 25 degrees.
  8.  
  9. Install the transaxle
  10.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Remove the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Using a flywheel holding tool, to prevent the flywheel from rotating when loosening the flywheel bolts.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the flywheel bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove 5 of the 6 flywheel bolts leaving one bolt at the top of the crankshaft.
  8.  
  9. Grip the flywheel and remove the remaining bolt. Do not drop the flywheel when removing the final bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the engine flywheel.
  12.  
  13. Clean the engine flywheel bolt threads and bolt holes.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Position the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the NEW flywheel bolts until snug.
  4.  
  5. Use a flywheel holding tool to prevent the flywheel from rotating when tightening the flywheel bolts.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the flywheel bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the transaxle.
  10.  

3.6L Engine
  1. Remove the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Install the a flywheel holding tool through the starter mounting hole.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine flywheel bolts and discard.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine flywheel from the crankshaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flywheel tool.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install 2 NEW bolts in location at the top and bottom of the engine flywheel bolt pattern allowing the engine flywheel to hang in position.
  4.  
  5. Install the a flywheel holding tool through the starter mounting hole.
  6.  
  7. Install NEW flywheel bolts and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) plus an additional 45 degrees.
  8.  
  9. Remove the flywheel tool.
  10.  
  11. Install the transaxle.
  12.
