Power Mirrors



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the power mirror switch of the outside rearview mirror.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the voltage supply circuit and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the voltage supply circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  6.  
  7. Test for 25-95 ohms of resistance between the control terminal and the ground terminal of each motor control circuit. If the resistance is not within the specified range, test the circuits for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the outside rearview mirror.
  8.  
  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the power mirror switch.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the power mirror switch of the outside rearview mirror.
  12.  
  13. Test for infinite resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the open position. If less than infinite resistance, replace the power mirror switch.
  14.  
  15. Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the closed position. If greater than 2 ohms, replace the power mirror switch.
  16.  
  17. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror.
  18.  
  19. Test for 25-95 ohms of resistance between the control terminal and the ground supply terminal of the individual left or right mirror motor. If the resistance is not within the specified range, replace the appropriate mirror replacement.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror switch.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition OFF, test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between the ground circuit terminal G and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal B and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition OFF, reconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror switch.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the harness connector at the inoperative mirror.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition OFF, with the outside rearview mirror switch in the UP position, test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  12.  
  13. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the DOWN position, test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the control circuit terminal 6 and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  14.  
  15. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the LEFT position, test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the control circuit terminal 2 and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  16.  
  17. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the RIGHT position, test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the control circuit terminal 6 and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  18.  
  19. Turn the ignition ON, with the outside rearview mirror switch in the UP position, verify a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 6 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  20.  
  21. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the DOWN position, verify a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  22.  
  23. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the LEFT position, verify a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 6 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  24.  
  25. With the outside rearview mirror switch in the RIGHT position, verify a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 2 and ground. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror switch.
  26.  
  27. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the applicable outside rearview mirror motor.

Removal & Installation
Motor
  1. Remove front door switch bezel
  2.  
  3. Remove the front side door trim push-in retainer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front side door inside handle bolt cap
  6.  
  7. Remove the front side door inside handle screw
  8.  
  9. Remove the front side door trim panel screw
  10.  
  11. Remove the front side door locking rod knob tab
  12.  
  13. Remove the front side door locking rod knob assembly
  14.  
  15. Remove the front side door trim panel assembly
  16.  
  17. Use a door clip removal tool to aid in the removal of the door trim panel
  18.  
  19. Pull upwards on door lock retainer cable to disengage.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect electrical connectors.
  22.  
  23. Remove the front side door trim panel retainer and the panel.
  24.  
  25. Remove the mirror nuts, lift off the mirror and unplug the connector.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  


CAUTION
Approved safety glasses and gloves should be worn when performing this procedure to reduce the chance of personal injury.


NOTE
When servicing electrochromic glass that is broken, or if glass breaks during servicing, be cautious not to spill electrochromic fluid onto vehicle. Doing so will cause damage to the vehicle. The top inboard corner is the ideal location for pulling the mirror out of the housing.

  1. Remove the mirror face as follows:
    1. Push mirror glass bottom outboard corner, furthest away from the vehicle door, as far as possible into the mirror housing.
    2.  
    3. Place fingers tips behind the top inboard edge corner, closest to the vehicle door.
    4.  
    5. Pull the mirror glass with light pressure until the glass comes loose.
    6.  
    7. Holding the mirror face, disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the mirror.
    8.

  3. Remove the mirror nuts, lift off the mirror and unplug the connector.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. Remove the passenger side power door lock and window switch.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front side door pull handle cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front side door inside handle bezel finish cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front side door trim panel bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front side door locking rod knob assembly.
    NOTE
    Ensure the locking rod is in the unlocked position.

  10.  
  11. Use a flat-bladed tool to disengage the detent tab and then remove the knob by pulling upward.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front side door trim panel assembly
    NOTE
    Use a door panel trim tool or equivalent to aid in the removal of the trim panel.

  14.  
  15. Disengage the door lock cable.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove the front side door trim panel retainer.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch assembly.
  22.  
  23. Depress the retainers from the back side of the door panel.
  24.  
  25. Lift upward at the rear edge of the switch assembly then slide up and out of the door panel.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
