  18.
  19. Remove the dust shield and jounce bumper assembly from the strut shaft. Inspect for damage and replace as necessary.
  20.
  21. Remove the lower spring seat insulator. Inspect for damage and replace as necessary.
  22.

To install:

  1. Install the spring into the spring compressor . Make sure the spring is level.
  2.
  3. Use the spring compressor to compress the spring evenly.
  4.
  5. Install the lower spring seat insulator.
  6.
  7. Extend the strut shaft to the upper limit of its travel.
  8.
  9. Insert the jounce bumper into the dust shield.
  10.
  11. Slide the dust shield assembly onto the strut shaft.
  12.
  13. Load the strut through the coil spring and the spring compressor.
  14.
  15. Firmly align the lower spring coil in the spring seat pocket.
  16.
  17. Place the upper spring insulator and spring seat onto the top of the coil spring.
  18.
  19. Place the bearing and strut mount on the top of the spring seat.
  20.
  21. Install the upper strut shaft nut and tighten to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  22.
  23. Using the spring compressor , remove the spring tension.
  24.
  25. Remove the strut assembly from the spring compressor .
  26.
  27. Install the strut assembly
  28.

  1. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Install the strut (a spring compressor tool.
    NOTE
The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  4.
  5. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  6.
  7. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use a strut rod socket such as J 42991 to remove the upper strut mount nut.
  8.
  9. Remove the strut from the compressor
  10.
  11. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper strut mount and coil spring may be removed.
  12.
  13. Remove the upper strut mount and the coil spring from the compressor.
  14.

To install:

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount to the compressor.
  2.
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.
  7. Loosely install the strut retaining nut.
  8.
  9. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Use a strut rod socket such as J 42991 to install the upper strut mount nut. Tighten to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
  10.
  11. Remove the strut from the compressor.
  12.
  13. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  14.

Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the strut.
  6.
  7. Remove the strut to steering knuckle nuts.
  8.
  9. If applicable, reposition the wheel speed sensor/ABS harness and bracket.
  10.
  11. Remove the strut to steering knuckle bolts.
  12.
  13. Remove the upper strut cap to body nuts.
    NOTE
In order to prevent damage to the CV joint boot, place a shop towel over the CV joint.

  14.
  15. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  16.

To install:

NOTE
It may be necessary to rotate the upper strut mount cover guide to match the hole in the strut tower.

  1. Position the strut to the vehicles strut tower, using the alignment pin as a guide.
  2.
  3. Install the upper strut cap to body nuts. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install the strut to steering knuckle bolts leaving the nuts off.
  6.
  7. If applicable, place the wheel speed sensor harness and bracket to the bolt end.
  8.
  9. Install the strut to steering knuckle nuts and tighten to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  10.
  11. Connect the stabilizer link to the strut. Tighten to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
  12.
