Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock switch.
  2.  
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminals D and E and the ground terminal B with the switch in the open position. If less than the specified value, replace the appropriate door lock switch.
  4.  
  5. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal E and the ground terminal B with the switch in the lock position. If greater than the specified range, replace the appropriate door lock switch.
  6.  
  7. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal D and the ground terminal B with the switch in the unlock position. If greater than the specified range, replace the appropriate door lock switch.
  8.  
  9. Install a 25-amp fused jumper wire between the lock control terminal and 12 volts. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the unlock control terminal and ground. The appropriate door lock should perform the LOCK/ UNLOCK function. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the appropriate door lock.
  10.  
  11. Reverse the jumper wires; the appropriate door lock should perform the UNLOCK/LOCK function. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the appropriate door lock.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the appropriate relay.
  14.  
  15. Test for 60-200 ohms between terminals 85 and 86. If not within the specified range, replace the relay.
  16.  
  17. Test for infinite resistance between the following terminals:

    30 and 86
     
    30 and 87
     
    30 and 85
     
    85 and 87
     

  18.  
  19. If less than the specified value, replace the applicable relay.
  20.  
  21. Test for less than 2 ohms between terminals 30 and 87A. If greater than the specified range, replace the relay.
  22.  
  23. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between applicable relay terminal 85 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal 86 and ground. Measure for less than 2 ohms between terminals 30 and 87. If greater than specified range, replace the appropriate relay.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock switch.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal A and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition ON, verify the scan tool door lock switch is Idle. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6.  
  7. Install a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and ground. Verify the scan tool door lock switch is Lock or Unlock. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  8.  
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate door lock switch.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the lock control circuit terminal and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
  14.  
  15. Turn the ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the unlock control circuit terminal and ground. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
  16.  
  17. Connect a test lamp between lock control circuit terminal and unlock control circuit terminal.
  18.  
  19. Command the Door Latch to LOCK and UNLOCK with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON when commanding the LOCK and UNLOCK states. If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands, test for a short to ground on either control circuit. If the circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
  20.  
  21. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate door latch
  22.  

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor

  1. Remove front door switch bezel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front side door trim push-in retainer.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front side door inside handle bolt cap
  6.  
  7. Remove the front side door inside handle screw
  8.  
  9. Remove the front side door trim panel screw
  10.  
  11. Remove the front side door locking rod knob tab
  12.  
  13. Remove the front side door locking rod knob assembly
  14.  
  15. Remove the front side door trim panel assembly.
  16.  
  17. Use a door clip removal tool to aid in the removal of the door trim panel
  18.  
  19. Pull upwards on door lock retainer cable to disengage.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect electrical connectors.
  22.  
  23. Remove the front side door trim panel retainer and the panel.
  24.  
  25. Remove the water deflector.
  26.  
  27. Release the door lock cable retainers from the door.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the door lock electrical connector.
  30.  
  31. Remove the door lock with the handle housing.
  32.  
  33. Remove the handle and lock rods from the lock.
  34.  
  35. Remove the outside door handle.
  36.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  

Door Lock Switch
  1. Remove the front side door pull handle finish plug.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front side door window bezel screw.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front side door window bezel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door lock switch push button assembly and disconnect the electrical connector.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. Remove the passenger side power door lock and window switch.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front side door pull handle cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front side door inside handle bezel finish cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front side door trim panel bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front side door locking rod knob assembly.
    NOTE
    Ensure the locking rod is in the unlocked position.

  10.  
  11. Use a flat-bladed tool to disengage the detent tab and then remove the knob by pulling upward.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front side door trim panel assembly
    NOTE
    Use a door panel trim tool or equivalent to aid in the removal of the trim panel.

  14.  
  15. Disengage the door lock cable.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove the front side door trim panel retainer.
  20.  
  21. Remove the door outside handle housing.
  22.  
  23. remove the latch screws, unplug the connector and remove the latch.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
    NOTE
    When re-installing, push the knob down until the detent tab touches the locking rod opening cover. push the detent tab into the lock knob to locking rod.

  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch assembly.
  4.  
  5. Depress the retainers from the back side of the door panel.
  6.  
  7. Lift upward at the rear edge of the switch assembly then slide up and out of the door panel.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
