Removal & Installation

3.5L Engine



  1. Remove the drive belt.
  2.  
  3. Use a power steering pulley remover/installer such as SA9162C to remove the power steering pump pulley.
  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belt idler pulley
  6.  
  7. Remove as much power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  8.  
  9. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.
  10.  
  11. Remove the engine lift bracket bolt and bracket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose.
    NOTE
    Discard the and install a NEW power steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal prior to installation of the hose.

  14.  
  15. Remove the power steering reservoir inlet hose.
  16.  
  17. Remove the power steering pump bolt and pump.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal:
    1. Tighten the pump bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Install a new inlet hose O-ring seal and tighten the hose sitting to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Tighten the engine lift bracket bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Use a power steering pulley remover/installer such as SA9162C to install the power steering pump pulley.
    8.  
    9. Fill and bleed the power steering system.

  1. Remove the drive belt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove as much power steering fluid from the remote power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  6.  
  7. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose clamp.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose.
    NOTE
    Discard the and install a NEW power steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal prior to installation of the hose.

  14.  
  15. Remove the engine mount adapter bolt.
  16.  
  17. Remove the power steering pump bolt
  18.  
  19. Use a power steering pulley remover/installer such as SA9162C to remove the power steering pump pulley.
  20.  
  21. Remove the engine mount adapter bracket bolts and bracket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the power steering pump.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal:
    1. Tighten the pump bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Use an installer tool such as CJ138 or OTC7771or 8 mm x 1.25 inch tool to install the power steering pump pulley.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the engine mount adapter bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Install a new inlet hose O-ring seal and tighten the hose sitting to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
    10.

  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
  2.  
  3. Remove as much power steering fluid from the remote power steering fluid reservoir as possible.
  4.  
  5. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the steering gear heat shield.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right side catalytic converter.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose from the power steering pump.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose from the power steering pump.
  16.  
  17. Remove the power steering pump bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Transfer any parts as needed.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the power steering pump bolts and tighten to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to the power steering pump and tighten to 29 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump.
  8.  
  9. Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  10.  
  11. Install the right side catalytic converter.
  12.  
  13. Install the steering gear heat shield.
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  18.  
  19. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
  20.
