Coil Springs

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable jack stand, support the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower control arm to knuckle bolt and nut.
    CAUTION
    To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, use the proper tools to support the lower control arm when removing the coil spring. The coil spring is under extreme pressure and can become a projectile should the spring separate from the lower control arm before all of the tension is relieved.

  9. Use the jackstand to swing the lower control arm downward with the coil spring attached.

  11. Remove the coil spring from the lower control arm.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the coil spring upper and lower insulators for damage, replace as necessary.
  14.  

To install:


NOTE
Be sure that the coil spring upper and lower insulators are properly seated prior to installation of the coil spring.

  1. Position the coil spring onto the lower control arm.
  2.  
  3. Use the jack stand to raise the lower control arm upward into position.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower control arm to knuckle bolt and nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the jack stand from under the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Check the rear wheel alignment.
  14.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire and wheel.
  4.  
  5. Position an adjustable jack stand under the lower control arm .
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower stabilizer shaft link bushing and nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower shock absorber bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower bolts from the knuckle.
  12.  
  13. Using the adjustable jack stand, slowly lower the vehicle until the rear spring, insulator jounce bumper and the spring seat can be removed.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Position the spring seat, jounce bumper, rear spring and the insulator on the lower control arm.
  2.  
  3. Using the adjustable jack stand, raise the lower control arm until the lower bolts for the knuckle can be installed.
  4.  
  5. Remove the adjustable jack stand.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower stabilizer shaft link bushing and nut.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower shock absorber bolt. Tighten to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) plus an additional 60 degrees.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear tire and wheels.
  12.  
  13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
