Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tires and wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spare tire.
  6.  
  7. Insert a wrench on the stabilizer shaft link so as not to allow the stabilizer shaft link to rotate when removing or installing the retaining nut.
    NOTE
    It maybe necessary to apply a small amount of penetrating oil to the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut prior to removal.

  8.  
  9. Remove the upper stabilizer shaft link retaining nut with washer and bushing.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamp bolt and the clamp.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the stabilizer shaft link.
    NOTE
    It maybe necessary to maneuver the stabilizer shaft in such away to remove it from the vehicle.

  15. Remove the stabilizer shaft and bushing from the vehicle.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the bushing on the stabilizer shaft.
  2.  
  3. Maneuver the stabilizer shaft in such away to properly install it on the frame.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer shaft on the stabilizer shaft link.
    NOTE
    DO NOT tighten the bolts or nuts to specifications. Leave the bolts and nut loose.

  6.  
  7. Install the stabilizer shaft clamp and the bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the bushing and the upper stabilizer shaft link retaining nut with washer.
  10.  
  11. Insert a wrench on the stabilizer shaft link so as not to allow the stabilizer shaft link to rotate when removing or installing the retaining nut.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the upper stabilizer shaft link retaining nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Tighten the stabilizer shaft clamp bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the spare tire.
  18.  
  19. Install the rear tires and wheels.
  20.  
  21. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  22.
