Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the ABS routing harness connectors and position the harness aside.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper control arm to support assembly bolt and nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper control arm to knuckle bolt and nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle through the wheelhouse opening.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the upper control arm to the support assembly and knuckle through the wheelhouse opening.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper control arm to knuckle bolt and nut. Hand tighten only.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper control arm to support assembly bolt. Tighten the upper control arm to support assembly bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm) plus an additional 60 degrees. Tighten the upper control arm to knuckle bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm) plus an additional 70 degrees.
  6.  
  7. Route the harness and connect the ABS routing harness connectors.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
    NOTE
    If removing the upper control arm to service scribe a line on the front adjuster cam to aid in the realignment of the control arm.

  2.  
  3. Scribe a reference mark on the adjuster cam and the bracket to aid in installing the upper control arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the speed sensor wiring harness retaining clips and from the upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Position a jack stand under the lower control arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper control arm mounting nut and bolt.
  10.  
  11. Use a wrench to hold the adjuster cam bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear upper adjuster cam bolt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rear upper adjuster cam.
  16.  
  17. Remove front the adjuster cam nut.
  18.  
  19. Remove the adjuster cam.
  20.  
  21. Remove the adjuster cam bolt.
  22.  
  23. Rotate the rear knuckle down to gain removal clearance for the upper control arm.
  24.  
  25. Remove the upper control arm.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Install the upper control arm in the mounting bracket.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the knuckle assembly back into the proper position.
  4.  
  5. Position the front adjuster cam in the mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the adjuster cam bolt.
  8.  
  9. Finger tighten the front adjuster cam nut.
  10.  
  11. Position the rear adjuster cam in the mounting bracket.
  12.  
  13. Finger tighten the rear adjuster cam nut.
  14.  
  15. Install the upper control arm bolt and nut. Tighten to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) plus an additional 90 degrees.
  16.  
  17. Remove the jack stand from under the lower control arm.
  18.  
  19. Install the speed sensor wiring harness retaining clips and on the upper control arm.
  20.  
  21. Align the reference marks on the adjuster cam and bracket.
  22.  
  23. Using a wrench to hold the adjuster cam bolt in place, tighten all the adjuster cam nuts. Tighten to

  25. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

  27. Verify wheel alignment.
