Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outer tie rod end nut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering gear inner tie rod end nut.
  6.  
  7. Use a puller to separate the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the steering gear inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads.
  10.  
  11. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
    1. Lubricate the steering gear inner tie rod threads with chassis lubricant.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the outer tie rod end nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm), plus an additional 90 degrees.
    4.  
    5. Inspect and adjust the alignment.
