Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



3.5L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the crankcase.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Oil filter
     
    Oil level sensor
     
    Transmission brace
     
    Oil pan

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan with a new gasket. DO NOT tighten the bolts at this time.
     
    Transmission brace on the engine block only. Torque the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Oil level sensor. Torque the bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
     
    Brace-to-oil pan bolts, loosely install them

  3. Align the rear of the oil pan flush with the rear of the engine block. Use a straight edge for reference.
  4.  
  5. Press the front of the oil pan against the transmission brace; then torque the brace-to-oil pan bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Be sure to keep the rear of the pan flush with the rear of the engine.
  6.  
  7. Torque the oil pan bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Brace-to-transmission bolts. Torque them to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Oil level sensor electrical connector
     
    Drain plug. Torque it to 15 ft. lbs. (20 m).
     
    New oil filter. Torque the cap to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  11. Refill the crankcase.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
  14.  

4.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear seat cushion to access the battery.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Drain the crankcase.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The oil pan gasket is reusable unless it is damaged. Do not remove the gasket from the oil pan groove unless gasket replacement is required.



    Transmission
     
    Exhaust crossover pipe
     
    Oil pan

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan. Torque the bolts in sequence to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Exhaust crossover pipe. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Transmission
     
    Oil pan drain plug. Torque it to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Refill the crankcase.
  4.
