    Front wheels

Right inner fender well splash shield

    Lower center air deflector

    Left transmission mount-to-frame through-bolt

Power steering line retainer from the bracket

Accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley

Fuel injector sight shield from the intake manifold

Power steering pump from the mounting bracket

  10.
  11. Raise the engine using a support fixture.
  12.
  13. Remove or disconnect the following:

Engine mount bracket from the engine

Torque axis mount from the frame rail

  14.
  15. Lower the engine using the support fixture, until clearance for a balancer puller is attained.
  16.
  17. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
DO NOT discard the gasket, if it is undamaged it can be re-used.

    Crankshaft balancer

    Accessory drive belt tensioner

    Accessory drive belt idler pulley

    Front cover

    Oil pump and drive spacer

  18.
  19. If necessary, disassemble and inspect the pump as follows:
    1. Remove the drive spacer from the pump housing.
    2.
    3. Remove the 2 screws holding the pump housing halves together.
    4.
    5. Remove the inner (drive) and outer (driven) rotors from the housing. Indicate the mating surfaces (dimples).
    6.
    7. Remove the pressure relief valve.
    8.
    9. If any components show signs of excessive wear or damage, replace the pump assembly.

To install:

  1. If the pump was disassembled, reassemble as follows:
    1. Install the inner and outer rotors to the pump cover in the same orientation as removed.
    2.
    3. Install the pressure relief valve seat, spring and pilot in the pump housing.
    4.
    5. Pack the pump housing halves with petroleum jelly to ensure pump priming.
    6.
    7. Assemble the housing and cover over the locating dowel.
    8.
    9. Insert a 9mm drill in the pump mounting hole on the opposite side to aid alignment of the housing and cover. Install the 2 screws and tighten to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    10.

  2.
  3. Install or connect the following:

Oil pump drive spacer into the oil pump from the rear so the drive flat engages the pump rotor

Oil pump. Torque the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm); then an additional 35 degree turn.

  4.
  5. Place a small amount of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.
  6.
  7. Install or connect the following:

Front cover with a new gasket. Torque the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

Accessory drive belt idler pulley. Torque the bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

Accessory drive belt tensioner. Torque the bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

  8.
  9. Coat the seal contact area on the crankshaft balancer with engine oil.
  10.
  11. Install the crankshaft balancer. Torque the bolt to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm); then an additional 120 degrees ( 2 / 3 ) turn.
  12.
  13. Raise the engine with the support fixture.
  14.
  15. Install or connect the following:

Torque axis mount on the body

Engine mount bracket on the engine. Torque the nuts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) and the bolts to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).

  16.
  17. Lower the engine support fixture until the engine is at its normal height.
  18.
  19. Install or connect the following:

Power steering pump to the bracket

    Fuel injector sight shield

    Accessory drive belt

Power steering line retainer to the engine mount bracket

Left transmission mount-to-frame through-bolt. Torque the bolt to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).

    Lower center air deflector

Right inner fender well splash shield

Front wheels. Torque the nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).

Engine mount-to-engine bracket. Torque the through-bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
