Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the bezel for the instrument panel cluster.
  2.  
  3. Remove the Radio.
  4.  
  5. Remove the heater control assembly by firmly depressing and holding the retaining tabs and then sliding the assembly away from the dash.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the temperature and mode cables from the back of the control head.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connection from the control head.
  10.  
  11. Remove the control head.

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connection to the control head
  2.  
  3. Connect the temperature and mode cables to the back of the control head.
  4.  
  5. Install the control head to the instrument panel carrier until a snap is heard.
  6.  
  7. Install the radio.
  8.  
  9. Install the bezel for the instrument panel cluster.
  10.  

  1. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control assembly retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Depress the control assembly retaining tabs and remove the control assembly from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the control assembly bulb from the control assembly and retain.

To install:

  1. Install the control assembly bulb to the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connectors to the control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the control assembly into the instrument panel, ensuring that the control assembly retaining tabs lock into place.
  6.  
  7. Install the control assembly retaining screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
    WARNING
    Vehicles equipped with an Auxiliary Computer Climate Control System (ECC) and a rear overhead control assembly (without a sunroof) require a special configuration procedure to be performed after the main control assembly in the instrument panel is replaced. Failure to perform the configuration procedure may result in the auxiliary control unit operating improperly.

  1. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel storage tray.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory switch assembly from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws from the HVAC control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the HVAC control assembly, with the following procedure:
    1. Release the retaining tabs.
    2.  
    3. Pull the control head out of the instrument panel carrier.
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.
  12.  

To install:


WARNING
Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF position when connecting the electrical connectors to ensure the proper calibration of the control panel.

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the HVAC control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the accessory switch assembly to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the screws from the HVAC control assembly.
    1. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel storage tray.
  10.  
  11. Install the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
    WARNING
    Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while the HVAC control module is calibrating. If interrupted improper HVAC performance will result.

  13. Start the vehicle and let run for one minute .
  14.  

  1. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel storage tray.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory switch assembly from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws from the HVAC control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the HVAC control assembly, with the following procedure:
    1. Release the retaining tabs.
    2.  
    3. Pull the control head out of the instrument panel carrier.
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Unplug the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.

To install:


WARNING

  1. Engage the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the HVAC control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the accessory switch assembly to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the screws from the HVAC control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel storage tray.
  10.  
  11. Install the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
    WARNING
    Do not adjust any controls on the HVAC control module while the HVAC control module is calibrating. If interrupted improper HVAC performance will result.

  13. Start the vehicle and let run for one minute .
  14.  

  1. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel storage tray.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory switch assembly from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws from the HVAC control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the HVAC control assembly, with the following procedure:
    1. Release the retaining tabs.
    2.  
    3. Pull the control head out of the instrument panel carrier.
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Unplug the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.

To install:


WARNING

    WARNING

  13. Start the vehicle and let run for one minute .

Configuration Procedure



Perform the configuration procedure if necessary.

  1. Connect scan tool to vehicle-s Data Link Connector (DLC)
  2.  
  3. Switch the ignition ON but do not start the engine.
  4.  
  5. Select Special Functions
  6.  
  7. Select Setup New HVAC
  8.  
  9. Select Aux. HVAC (RPO C69).
  10.  
  11. Use the Enter Key to select Programmed. An asterisk will appear by Aux. HVAC (RPO C69) when it is programmed.
  12.  
  13. Press the Save Options Soft key
  14.  

Manual Control Panel



  1. Remove the bezel located in the instrument panel center cluster.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radio for access.
  4.  
  5. Remove the heater control assembly by firmly depressing and holding the retaining tabs and then sliding the assembly away from the dash.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the temperature and mode cables from the back of the control head.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connection from the control head.
  10.  
  11. Remove the control head.

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connection to the control head
  2.  
  3. Connect the temperature and mode cables to the back of the control head.

  5. Install the control head to the I/P carrier until a snap is heard.
  6.  
  7. Install the radio.
  8.  
  9. Install the bezel into the instrument panel.
