Distributor Cap & Rotor

Removal & Installation



  1. Make sure ignition switch in I the OFF position.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. If the distributor cap is going to be replaced tag (number) and disconnect the ignition wires from distributor cap.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws holding the distributor cap to the housing and remove distributor cap.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two screws holding the rotor and remove the rotor.
    1. Note which holes in the rotor the screws are removed from.
    2.

To install:

  1. Install the rotor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the distributor cap and tighten the screws to 21 inch lbs (2.4 Nm).
  4.  
  5. If removed, reconnect ignition wires.
    1. Observe the tags (numbering) to make sure the ignition wires are reconnected to the proper sockets on the distributor cap.
    2.  

  6.  
  7. Install the engine cover.
  8.  


NOTE
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp turns on, and a DTC code P1345 sets after installing the distributor, this indicates an incorrectly installed distributor. Engine damage or distributor damage may occur.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Spark plug wires from the distributor cap
     
    Electrical connector from the base of the distributor
     
    Two screws that hold the distributor cap to the housing. Discard the screws.
     
    Distributor cap from the housing
     

  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

  1. Make sure ignition switch in I the OFF position.

  3. Remove the engine cover.

  5. If the distributor cap is going to be replaced tag (number) and disconnect the ignition wires from distributor cap.

  7. Remove the two screws holding the distributor cap to the housing and remove distributor cap.

  9. Remove the two screws holding the rotor and remove the rotor.
    1. Note which holes in the rotor the screws are removed from.

To install:

  1. Install the rotor and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the distributor cap and tighten the screws to 21 inch lbs. (2.4 Nm).

  5. If removed, reconnect ignition wires.

  7. Install the engine cover.
