Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.

  7. Remove the caliper installation bolt, lift up the caliper, and suspend it securely. Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper.

  9. Remove the anti-squeal springs
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake pads.
  12.  
  13. Remove the anti-squeal shims.
  14.  
  15. Remove the pad wear indicator plate.
  16.  
  17. Remove the pad support plates.
  18.  

To install:


NOTE
The anti-squeal springs support plates can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off.

  1. Check disc thickness and runout.
  2.  
  3. Install the pad support plates.
    NOTE
    When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims and wear indicator plates must be replaced together with the pads.

  5. Install a pad wear indicator plate on the inner pad.
  6.  
  7. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims.
  8.  
  9. Install the 2 anti-squeal shims on each pad.
  10.  
  11. Install inner pad with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
  12.  
  13. Install outer pad.
    NOTE
    There should be no oil or grease adhering to the friction surfaces of the pads or the disc.

  15. Install the 2 anti-squeal springs.
  16.  
  17. Install the caliper:
    1. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir.
    2.  
    3. Press in the piston with a hammer handle or similar implement. If the piston is difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the piston while letting some brake fluid escape.
    4.  
    5. Install the caliper.
    6.  
    7. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the caliper installation bolt to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

  19. Install the front wheel.
  20.  
  21. Fill brake reservoir with brake fluid, bleed brake system and check for leaks.
