Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.

  7. Remove the timing belt. Refer to timing Belt Removal & Installation in the Engine Mechanical section.
  8.  
  9. Remove the camshaft timing pulleys.
  10.  
  11. Remove the No. 2 idler pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the No. 3 timing belt cover.

  15. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 nuts attaching the water pump to the engine.

  17. Remove the water pump and the gasket from the engine.

To install:

  1. Install a new gasket and the water pump to the engine and tighten the 4 bolts and 2 nuts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm). Do not get oil on the gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the No. 3 timing belt cover.
  4.  
  5. Install the No. 2 idler pulley.
  6.  
  7. Install the camshaft timing pulleys.
  8.  
  9. Install the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
  16.  
  17. Recheck coolant level.
