EGR System Fault

Possible Causes:



EGR valve is open at idle
 
EGR solenoid ground circuit is open
 
EGR solenoid control circuit is open, shorted to ground or to voltage
 
ASD relay power circuit open to the EGR solenoid
 
EGR valve or solenoid is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed (EGR open or EGR closed)

EGR solenoid ground circuit is open
 
EGR solenoid control circuit is open or shorted to ground or to voltage
 
EGR solenoid power circuit is open
 
EGR solenoid is damaged or has failed

EGR Position Sensor Signal Performance

Possible Causes:



EGR Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
EGR Sensor 5v supply circuit is open or has high resistance
 
EGR Sensor ground circuit is open
 
EGR solenoid control circuit has a problem
 
EGR valve actuator loose, sticking, blocked or improperly grounded
 
EGR Sensor is damaged or has failed
 
Intermittent condition
 
PCM has failed

EGR Position Sensor Circuit Low Input

Possible Causes:



EGR Sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground or open
 
EGR Sensor VREF (5v) circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
EGR Sensor is damaged (shorted internally) or it has failed
 
EGR position internal failure
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0406



EGR Position Sensor Circuit High Input

Possible Causes:



Intermittent condition
 
EGR Sensor signal is shorted to VREF (5v) supply circuit or to battery voltage
 
EGR Sensor ground circuit is open
 
EGR Sensor signal circuit is open
 
EGR Sensor is damaged (it may have an internal open circuit)
 
EGR solenoid failure
 
PCM has failed

Catalyst Efficiency Below Normal (Bank 1)

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in at the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
Base engine problems (high coolant or engine oil consumption)
 
Catalytic converter damaged or has failed
 
FronT O2S1 older (aged) than the rear O2 (O2 is lazy)

Fuel tank cap is damaged, loose or the wrong part number
 
Small leak present somewhere in the EVAP system

Check for any ABS/RWAL or TCM codes related to the VSS
