2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Chrysler Sebring 2008-2009

Dodge Avenger 2008-2009

  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  2.  
  3. Remove oil drain plug (2) and drain the engine oil.

  5. Remove accessory drive belt splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove lower A/C compressor mounting bolt (if equipped).

  8.  
  9. Remove A/C mounting bracket (2).
    NOTE
    Do not use pry points in block to remove oil pan.

  10.  
  11. Remove oil pan retaining bolts.
  12.  
  13. Using a putty knife (1), loosen seal around oil pan (2).

  15. Remove oil pan (2).

To install:


NOTE
Oil pan sealing surfaces must be free of grease or oil.


NOTE
Parts must be assembled within 10 minutes of applying RTV.

  1. Apply Mopar® Engine RTV GEN II at the front cover to engine block parting lines (1).

  3. Apply a 2 mm bead of Mopar® Engine RTV GEN II around the oil pan.
  4.  
  5. Position oil pan and install bolts. Tighten bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    NOTE
    The 2 long bolts must be tightened to 195 inch lbs. (22 Nm).

  6.  
  7. Install oil drain plug.
  8.  
  9. Lower vehicle and fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
  12.  

2.7L Engine

Specific to:

Chrysler Sebring 2008-2009

Dodge Avenger 2008-2009

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove engine oil dipstick and tube.
  4.  
  5. Drain engine oil and remove oil filter.
  6.  
  7. Remove structural collar (1).

  11. Remove torque converter housing cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove lower bolt attaching the A/C compressor to oil pan.
    CAUTION
    Assure removal of the two bolts attaching the timing cover to the oil pan, as damage to the timing cover and/or oil pan may occur.

  15. Remove oil pan attaching fasteners.
  16.  
  17. Remove oil pan and gasket.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Clean oil pan and sealing surfaces. Inspect oil pan and timing chain cover gaskets. Replace as necessary.
  2.  
  3. Apply an 1 / 8 inch bead of Mopar® Engine RTV GEN II to the front T-joints (oil pan gasket to timing cover gasket interface) and the rear T-joints (oil pan gasket to crankshaft rear oil seal retainer gasket interface).
  4.  
  5. Install oil pan gasket to block.
    NOTE
    To prevent oil leaks at oil pan to timing chain cover, the following tightening sequence procedure must be performed.

  7. Install oil pan and fasteners using the following tightening sequence:
    1. Install oil pan bolts and nuts finger tight only-just tight enough to compress the gasket's rubber seal.
    2.  
    3. Install timing chain cover to pan bolts and tighten to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Tighten oil pan bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
    6.  
    7. Tighten oil pan nuts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    8.

  9. Install lower bolt attaching the A/C compressor to oil pan. Tighten bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install torque converter housing cover.
  12.  
  13. Install oil filter and drain plug.
  14.  
  15. Install exhaust cross-under pipe.
  16.  
  17. Install structural collar.
  18.  
  19. Install engine oil dipstick and tube.
  20.  
  21. Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
  22.  
  23. Connect negative battery cable.
  24.  

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Chrysler Sebring 2008-2009

Dodge Avenger 2008-2009

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine oil indicator (1).

  5. Remove the engine oil indicator tube bolt (3).
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine oil indicator tube (2).
  8.  
  9. Raise and support the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front crossmember.

  13. Remove the crossover pipe.

  15. Loosen the front exhaust manifold.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil pan bell housing bolts (1).

  19. Drain the engine oil (1).

  21. Remove the engine oil filter (2).
  22.  
  23. Remove the oil pan fasteners.
  24.  
  25. Remove the oil pan.
    NOTE
    A small amount of oil will remain in the oil pan. Use care when removing the oil pan from the engine.

  27. Remove oil pan gasket.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Clean oil pan and all gasket surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Apply a 1 / 8 inch bead of Mopar® Engine RTV GEN II at the parting line of the oil pump housing and the rear seal retainer.

  5. Install oil pan gasket to the engine block.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan and tighten the oil pan bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the oil pan bell housing bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  10.  
  11. All engines are equipped with a high quality full-flow, disposable type oil filter (2). When replacing oil filter, use a Mopar® filter or equivalent.
  12.  
  13. Wipe base clean, then inspect gasket contact surface.
  14.  
  15. Lubricate gasket of new filter with clean engine oil.
  16.  
  17. Install and tighten oil filter to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm) of torque after gasket contacts base. Use filter wrench if necessary.
  18.  
  19. Install and tighten the oil pan drain bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Tighten the front maniverter bolts.
  22.  
  23. Install the crossover pipe.
  24.  
  25. Install the front crossmember.
  26.  
  27. Lower vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Install the oil level indicator tube.
  30.  
  31. Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  32.  
  33. Install the oil indicator.
  34.  
  35. Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
  36.  
  37. Connect negative battery cable.
  38.
