Power Sunroof



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Remove the overhead console.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power sunroof switch wire harness connector.
  4.  
  5. With the ignition key in the -RUN- position check for 5 volts on the -OPEN-, -CLOSE- and -VENT- circuits of the sunroof switch harness connector. If OK, go to next step. If not OK, inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the motor/module and switch for damage and repair as necessary.
  6.  
  7. With the ignition key in the -OFF- position check for continuity between the ground circuit of the sunroof switch harness connector and a known good ground. Continuity should be present. If OK, go to next step. If not OK, inspect the wiring harness and connector and repair the ground circuit as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Using an ohmmeter, test the continuity of the power sunroof switch in each switch position. If OK, inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage and repair as necessary. If not OK, replace the overhead console assembly
  10.  

Removal & Installation
Motor

Specific to:

Chrysler Sebring 2008-2009

Dodge Avenger 2008-2009

  1. Remove headliner.
    NOTE
    Please use clean gloves or ensure hands are clean before removing.

    1. Remove driver/passenger front seats and rear cushion.
    2.  
    3. Remove center console.
    4.  
    5. Remove the sun visors.
    6.  
    7. Remove sun visor supports.
    8.  
    9. Remove reading lamp.

    11. If equipped, remove dome lamp.
    12.  
    13. Remove glove box from instrument panel.
    14.  
    15. Remove right and left A-pillar trim.

    17. Remove door sill trim.
    18.  
    19. Remove right and left upper B-pillar trim.

    21. Remove front/rear assist handles and/or coat hooks.
    22.  
    23. Remove driver and passenger upper C-pillar quarter trim, as necessary.
      NOTE
      Push pin is not reusable.

    25. Using Special Tool molding remover C-4829a to disengage headliner rear push pins (3) holding headlining to roof above rear window.

    27. Disconnect the sunroof module electrical connector.
    28.  
    29. Pull down on headliner around sun roof to disengage headliner.
    30.  
    31. Slowly, drop headliner onto instrument panel.

    33. Reach through glove box and disconnect headliner electrical connector (2) along A-pillar.
      NOTE
      Please make certain all terminal locations are noted before removal.

    35. Back out terminals from connector (1).

    37. Pull headliner harness through A-pillar opening.

    39. Pull down on the rear of the map lamp and sun roof switch to disengage clips from roof panel, if equipped.
      NOTE
      Cover the floor of vehicle with a dirt free protective sheet of paper or plastic to prevent dirt from soiling headliner.

    41. With the help of an assistant, lower headliner down and tilt it to its side, fabric side facing the passenger door. Feed the headliner out near the front edge of the front passenger door. The headliner may be angled to minimize contact to the door opening.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector (1).
  4.  
  5. Remove three motor assembly attaching screws (4) from bottom side of motor assembly (3) and remove motor assembly from the motor bracket.
  6.  

To install:

  1. If sunroof was open when drive motor was removed, carefully move glass panel into closed position and remove glass panel.
  2.  
  3. Set lifter arm timing by manually sliding the mechanisms (1) in the track until timing holes in the trolleys are aligned with the timing holes in the lifter arm cams (2) and insert pins (3) into the mechanisms to hold mechanisms in closed position.

  5. Place motor into position and install screws attaching motor to bracket.
  6.  
  7. If sunroof glass panel was removed previously, remove the timing pins and install the sunroof glass panel.
  8.  
  9. Partially install the headliner and connect the sunroof wiring electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Temporarily install sunroof switch and perform the sunroof motor teach procedure.
  12.  
  13. Test sunroof operation, adjust glass as necessary.
  14.  
  15. Complete the headliner installation.

Switch

Specific to:

Chrysler Sebring 2008-2009

Dodge Avenger 2008-2009

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove overhead console.
    1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
    2.  
    3. Using a suitable tool, release the side locking tabs on the center mounting clip (5) that surrounds the sunroof switch (3), if equipped.

    5. Lower the clip to release, then slide the console forward to remove.
      NOTE
      On Low Line models the courtesy lamp lens serves as the forward retaining clip, Release the tab and lower the lens.

    7. Lower the overhead console (1) far enough to access the wire harness connectors.

    9. Disconnect the courtesy lamps (2 and 6), if equipped disconnect the infrared temperature sensor (4) and power sunroof switch electrical connectors.

    11. Remove the overhead console assembly from the vehicle.
    12.

  5. Using a suitable flat bladed tool, release the mounting tabs from the sides of the sunroof control switch and pull the switch out of the overhead console assembly.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Insert the sunroof control switch into the overhead console assembly.
  2.  
  3. Push the switch until it is securely held in place by the mounting tabs.
  4.  
  5. Install the overhead console.
  6.  
  7. Connect the battery negative cable.
  8.
