Removal & Installation



Rear Trailing Link
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw (5) securing the brake flex hose and tube bracket (1) to the trailing link.

  7. Remove the brake tube from the routing clip (2) on the trailing link.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, remove the routing clips (4) fastening the wheel speed sensor (3) to the trailing link.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with rear disc brakes, remove the two bolts (1) securing disc brake caliper adapter (3) to the brake support plate (4).

  13. If equipped with rear disc brakes, remove the disc brake caliper (2) and adapter (3) as an assembly. Hang the assembly out of the way using wire or a bungee cord. Use care not to overextend the brake hose and tubing when doing this.

  15. Remove the brake rotor or brake drum, then the hub and bearing.
  16.  
  17. Remove the parking brake cable from the lever on the brake shoe.

  19. Remove the hair pin (1) securing the parking brake cable (2) to the brake support plate (3).

  21. Slide the brake support plate (3) with brake shoes off the end of the parking brake cable (2).

  23. Pull the parking brake cable from the trailing link.
  24.  
  25. Remove the three bolts (3) securing the knuckle (2) to the trailing link (1).

  27. Remove the two bolts (2) fastening the leading end of the trailing link (3) to the body (1).

  29. Remove the trailing link.

To install:

  1. Position the trailing link and install the three bolts securing the trailing link to the knuckle (2). Tighten the mounting bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Position the forward end of the trailing link on the body and install the two mounting bolts. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
  4.  
  5. Insert the parking brake cable through the trailing link from the inboard side.
  6.  
  7. Slide the parking brake cable into the brake support plate with parking brake shoes.
  8.  
  9. Install the hair pin securing the parking brake cable to the brake support plate.
  10.  
  11. Install the parking brake cable onto the lever on the parking brake shoe.
  12.  
  13. Install the hub and bearing, then the brake rotor or brake drum over the hub and bearing.
  14.  
  15. If equipped with rear disc brakes, slide the disc brake caliper and adapter assembly over brake rotor and brake support plate.
  16.  
  17. If equipped with rear disc brakes, install the two bolts securing disc brake caliper adapter to the brake support plate. Tighten the mounting bolts to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm).
  18.  
  19. If equipped, install the routing clips fastening the wheel speed sensor to the trailing link.
  20.  
  21. Install the brake tube in the routing clip on the trailing link.
  22.  
  23. Position the brake flex hose and tube bracket at the trailing link bracket and install the mounting screw. Tighten the screw to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install tire and wheel assembly.
  26.  
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Position the vehicle on an alignment rack/drive-on lift. Raise the vehicle as necessary to access yet to be tightened mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Tighten the two mounting bolts fastening the leading end of the trailing link to the body to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Perform wheel alignment as necessary.
