NOTE
Before servicing the vehicle, also refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the speed sensor cable routing bracket from the steering knuckle. Remove the wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender.

  7. Remove the speed sensor sealing grommet from the inner fender.

  9. Unplug the speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt attaching speed sensor to steering knuckle. Then remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle
    WARNING
    If speed sensor head locating pin has seized to the steering knuckle, do not attempt to remove speed sensor head by grasping with pliers and turning. This will damage the speed sensor head. Use only the following procedure.

  13. If speed sensor head can not be removed from steering knuckle by hand, the locating pin on the speed sensor head has seized to the steering knuckle do to corrosion. Remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle using the following procedure. Remove disc brake caliper from steering knuckle, and remove brake rotor from hub/bearing assembly. Then insert a pin punch through hole in front steering knuckle and tap speed sensor head locating pin out of steering knuckle.

To install:


WARNING
Proper installation of wheel speed sensor cables is critical to continued system operation. Be sure that cables are installed in retainers. Failure to Install the cables in retainers as shown in this section may result in contact with moving parts and/or over extension of cables, resulting in an open circuit.

  1. Connect the wheel speed sensor cable connector to the vehicle wiring harness.

  3. Install the speed sensor cable assembly grommet into the front inner fender. Install the speed sensor cable grommet retainer/routing bracket on the inner fender of the vehicle and install the and securely tighten attaching bolt.
    WARNING
    When installing the wheel speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle, the speed sensor cable must be looped toward the shock absorber as shown.

If speed sensor cable is not routed in this direction it will rub against the tire or wheel, damaging the speed sensor cable.

  1. Install the speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle. Install and tighten routing bracket mounting bolt to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
  2.  
  3. Install the speed sensor head on steering knuckle. When installing speed sensor head on steering knuckle, apply a small amount of grease on speed sensor locating pin. Use MOPAR®, Multi-Purpose Grease, or equivalent, on speed sensor head locating pin. Install the speed sensor head attaching screw and tighten to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  5. Install the wheel and tire assembly on vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base and ABS systems.
  8.  

  1. Unplug the speed sensor cable connector from the vehicle wiring harness. Access for speed sensor cable to vehicle wiring harness connection is in the trunk of the vehicle.

  3. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the speed sensor cable sealing grommet retainer from the rear frame rail of the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Then remove speed sensor cable sealing grommet and cable from hole in body of vehicle.

  11. Remove the speed sensor routing clips from the rear upper control arm and brake flex hose routing bracket.

  13. Remove the rear speed sensor from the rear brake support plate.

  1. Install the speed sensor head into brake support plate.

  3. Install the wheel speed sensor attaching bolt and tighten to 75 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the speed sensor cable routing clips on the brake flex hose bracket and the bracket on the upper control arm. Install and securely tighten the routing clip attaching bolts.

  7. Install the connector end of speed sensor cable through hole in inner fender and into trunk of vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install the speed control sealing grommet into hole in inner fender. Install the sealing grommet retainer and attaching bolt on rear frame rail. Securely tighten retainer attaching bolt. Install the tire and wheel assembly on vehicle.

  11. Lower vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Plug speed sensor cable connector into vehicle wiring harness. Install the foam sleeve back over the speed sensor cable to vehicle wiring harness connection to prevent connector from rattling against body of vehicle.

  15. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base and ABS systems.

Front
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the speed sensor cable routing bracket from the steering knuckle. Remove the wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and the speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender.

  9. Remove the speed sensor sealing grommet from the inner fender.

  11. Unplug the speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness.

  13. Remove the bolt attaching the speed sensor to the steering knuckle. Then remove the speed sensor head from the steering knuckle
    WARNING
    If the speed sensor head locating pin has seized to the steering knuckle, do not attempt to remove the speed sensor head by grasping with a pliers and turning. This will damage the speed sensor head. Use only the following procedure.

  15. If the speed sensor head can not be removed from the steering knuckle by hand remove the speed sensor head from the steering knuckle using the following procedure:
    1. Remove the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the brake rotor from the hub/bearing assembly.
    4.  
    5. Insert a pin punch through the hole in the front steering knuckle and tap the speed sensor head locating pin out of the steering knuckle.

To install:

Proper installation of the wheel speed sensor cables is critical to continued system operation. Be sure that the cables are installed in the retainers. Failure to install the cables in the retainers as shown in this section may result in contact with moving parts and/or over extension of the cables, resulting in an open circuit.

  1. Connect the wheel speed sensor cable connector to the vehicle wiring harness.

  3. Install the speed sensor cable assembly grommet into the front inner fender.
  4.  
  5. Install the speed sensor cable grommet retainer/routing bracket on the inner fender of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install and securely tighten the attaching bolt.
    WARNING
    When installing the wheel speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle, the speed sensor cable must be looped toward the shock absorber as shown.


    WARNING
    If the speed sensor cable is not routed in this direction, it will rub against the tire or wheel, damaging the speed sensor cable.

  9. Install the speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle. Install and tighten the routing bracket mounting bolt to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
  10.  
  11. Install the speed sensor head on the steering knuckle. When installing the speed sensor head on the steering knuckle, apply a small amount of grease on the speed sensor locating pin. Use MOPAR®, Multi-Purpose Grease, or equivalent, on the speed sensor head locating pin. Install the speed sensor head attaching screw and tighten to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  13. Install the wheel and tire assembly on the vehicle. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).

  15. Road test the vehicle to ensure the proper operation of the base and ABS brake systems.

This procedure is for the removal and installation of one of the two rear wheel speed sensors.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    If speed sensor head locating pin has seized to the steering knuckle, do not attempt to remove speed sensor head by grasping with pliers and turning. This will damage the speed sensor head.



    Tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
     
    Speed sensor cable routing bracket from the steering knuckle.
     
    Wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender
     
    Speed sensor sealing grommet from the inner fender
     
    Speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness
     
    Bolt attaching speed sensor to steering knuckle.
     
    Speed sensor head from steering knuckle.
     

  8.  
  9. If speed sensor head can not be removed from steering knuckle by hand, the locating pin on the speed sensor head has probably seized to the steering knuckle due to corrosion. Remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle using the following procedure.
    1. Remove disc brake caliper and brake rotor.
    2.  
    3. Insert a pin punch through hole in front steering knuckle and tap speed sensor head locating pin out of steering knuckle.

  1. Install or connect the following:
    WARNING
    When installing the wheel speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle, the speed sensor cable must be looped toward the shock absorber. If speed sensor cable is not routed in this direction it will rub against the tire or wheel, damaging the speed sensor cable


    NOTE
    When installing speed sensor head on steering knuckle, apply a small amount of grease on speed sensor locating pin



    Wheel speed sensor cable connector to the vehicle wiring harness
     
    Speed sensor cable assembly grommet into the front inner fender
     
    Speed sensor cable grommet retainer/routing bracket on the inner fender of the vehicle and securely tighten attaching bolt
     



    Speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle.
     
    Routing bracket mounting bolt and torque to 105 inch lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Speed sensor head on steering knuckle
     



    Speed sensor head attaching screw and tighten to a torque of 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
     
    Wheel and tire assembly on vehicle and torque the nuts to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm) in a crisscross pattern
     

  2.  
  3. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base and ABS systems.

Right

This procedure is for the removal and installation of one of the two rear wheel speed sensors.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    If speed sensor head locating pin has seized to the steering knuckle, do not attempt to remove speed sensor head by grasping with pliers and turning. This will damage the speed sensor head.



    Tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
     
    Speed sensor cable routing bracket from the steering knuckle.
     
    Wiring harness sealing grommet retainer and speed sensor routing bracket from the inner fender
     
    Speed sensor sealing grommet from the inner fender
     
    Speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness
     
    Bolt attaching speed sensor to steering knuckle.
     
    Speed sensor head from steering knuckle.
     

  8.  
  9. If speed sensor head cannot be removed from steering knuckle by hand, the locating pin on the speed sensor head has probably seized to the steering knuckle due to corrosion. Remove speed sensor head from steering knuckle using the following procedure:

    Speed sensor cable assembly grommet into the front inner fender
     
    Speed sensor cable grommet retainer/routing bracket on the inner fender and securely tighten the bolt
     



    Speed sensor cable routing bracket on the steering knuckle and torque the bolt to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    Speed sensor head on steering knuckle
     

  2.  
  3. Apply a small amount of grease on speed sensor locating pin and torque the screw to 55 inch lbs. (6Nm)
  4.  
  5. Wheel and tire assembly on vehicle and torque the nuts to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm) in a crisscross pattern
  6.  
  7. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base and ABS systems.
